So Lightroom seems to be the only real good option for making adjustments to pictures. But as a young guy with not that much money I was wondering, does everyone just pay 10$ a month for Lightroom? Are there any other ways to get it or an older version like Adobe used to do for Premiere? Thanks!

Lightroom Classic syncs only one catalog at a time. And since Lightroom Classic on two different computers uses two different catalogs, you cannot sync catalogs between Lightroom Classic on two different computers.

Does Adobe have an plans to release a Lightroom Classic CC only subscription for a cheaper price? If Adobe released a $5/month subscription for Lightroom Classis CC only, I would think of subscribing. Considering that I don't use Photoshop, I find $10/month a bit expensive.

So, it appears only the default Photography Plan, with LR CC, LR Classic CC, PS CC, and a bit of cloud space, is offered at the low cost end (well their low cost end) that will provide you with Lightroom Classic CC with the minimum of additional software. (Unfortunately not with just LR Classic CC)

And I agree with many, note how Adobe lists Lightroom Classic CC secon (or in some advertising last), note how they do not offer a Lightroom Classic CC only plan. Note how the harp on Plans with more cloud space.

I bring my iPad Pro with me to shoots. Not only is it an immediate backup to my SD card, I do most of my edits on the iPad Pro. Once I have WiFI, the iPad Pro syncs to the cloud and I have another "backup" of sorts. My computer at home with Lightroom Classic will sync and download all the RAW files.

If I could, I would import to Lightroom Classic and then edit on the iPad Pro, although it would be an inconvenience, but Adobe doesn't let you import into Lightroom Classic and sync to CC. You can only import from Lightroom CC or Lightroom Mobile to have all your images in the cloud. I don't really need 1TB of cloud storage, but 20GB are not gonna cut it either. Like I said earlier, even just one SD card is 64GB, so I wouldn't be able to sync even one SD card. I'm not trying to store my photos on the cloud, I want to be able to sync more than 20GB of photos. If there is a better workflow that you know of, I'm all ears.

I am in the new Lightroom CC and imported all my files. For some of the Albums, I had JPGs and RAW files coming in. I am looking for a selection in the view to only have JPGs or RAWs in the view, so that I can review and delete. I am missing a filter to do that selection. Is this real? This seems to be so basic.

My phone has a limited amount of storage and I can't hold all of my Lightroom photos on it. I just recently downloaded Lightroom CC. On my old Lightroom, I could keep certain files just in Lightroom on my computer and select certain files to be synced on my iPhone. This new Lightroom CC is syncing ALL of my photos and I don't know how to select which ones I do or don't want to sync. The only way I can get them to not sync is by just straight deleting the photos completely. I can't do that anymore. Suggestions? I just need to know if it's possible to be selective in what photos I can sync on my iPhone.

Is there a setting in Lightroom Classic so that you're only viewing NEF files in the Library view rather than all the versions you've created, i.e. jpgs that have been saved after editing a file? When I call up the library to view images I'm seeing multiple copies of everything instead of just the original NEF files.

I've actually found the answer! Turns out I had to turn off subfolders for viewing. It was showing all my processed jpg images in the subfolders as I separate those images out from the original ones. So I now can only see the NEF original files and not all the processed jpg ones. Thanks for helping me to brainstorm this issue and I've also learnt new ways I can view particular types of files. Thank you Johan and 99Jon.

Hadn't thought of that, although I used to have it set up on my old computer so only the NEFs showed - but can't remember how I did that. I have over 180,000 images in the catalogue so just didn't want to have to keep sorting to just see those.

The reason this matters is that these two classes of JPG serve two very different purposes, and only one class is technically suited for further modification. So the other class - the exports - is more of a hindrance than a help within the LR Catalog. That doesn't mean these exported JPGs need to be deleted from disk. Only, in the Export dialog going forward, the option to re-import can be un-checked. And those already imported can be Removed from Catalog safely (without deleting from disk). That requires a reliable way to distinguish these - but it sounds as if a folder system has been used already to do that, which is ideal. So those folders (named "small", or whatever) and their contents might be removed easily. You can still access all that in the normal way with a file browser, outside of LR.

Often a physical book library has a photocopier that you can use. But no resulting photocopies get put back in the library shelves; only the book itself lives there. You can think of LR exports like those photocopies - derivative, partial, ephemeral.

Thanks Richard, I only shoot in Raw so all good. I do have a method to my madness - I just couldn't figure out how to stop the new installation on my new computer from seeing those I'd processed versus those that were the originals. It's all sorted now.

Lightroom 5.7 doesn't have any problem with such created virtual drive, can write metadata into jpg files, but Lightroom Classic (newest version) can't. Always getting message "Photos have read-only access".

No the Import preset applies only the "settings" changes. You'll still need to follow the instruction in 3) above to manually select just the JPEG files. If you click the icon next to 'Sort' from A>Z to Z>A it will move the JPEG files to the top of list making it easier to select them. It still should only take a few seconds. I just tested this and the Import preset doesn't include the 'Sort Type' or 'Order,' but it will remember those settings the next time you use. This shouldn't be an issue since won't be changing the Import settings.

John, the metadata conflict I was talking about is when a file is written to outside the app (C1 or LR). The original app's metadata (if any) is over-written, lost, and detected as a metadata conflict. The workaround is to only use one (1) app to write metadata to the file and keep the other apps in sync by performing a metadata "read" operation when it detects a conflict. Putting the ARW and JPEG files in separate folders will not make this issue go away.

What specific metadata are you speaking of? I haven't seen issue with that to this point, but I don't make much use of the non-exif metadata either (beyond image tagging and color coding), and these I use in only 1 app or the other - I don't look for or use "blue" tags from C1 in LR, for example, as it is something that in my use doesn't apply to anything other than RAW processing.

Yes, I'm talking about EXIF & IPTC metadata. If you're adding that to the raw files in C1 then the exported JPEG files will have that metadata and be visible inside LR after import. If for some reason you modify any of the EXIF & IPTC metadata inside LR then C1 won't see it unless you use 'Save Metadata to File' (Ctrl + S) AND then 'Read Metadata from File" inside C1. It also works vice-versa. If you're only adding this metadata inside C1 before exporting to JPEG AND never change it then there isn't an issue.

Hi guys, i recently purchased a set of presets that specified it works for both raw and jpegs. After installing the purchased presets, i found that only a few of the purchased presets shows up when i'm in Develop mode with a jpeg file and when i switch to a Raw file, all of the purchased presets comes up.

That was true in versions prior to LR 8.1, but in 8.1 all presets will display for all types of photos, provided the option Preferences > Presets Tab > Show Partially Compatible Develop Presets is checked (which it is, by default). See here for details: -new-in-lightroom-classic-81/

Hi Dave,

Yes it looks like there are still some issues. It has worked most of the time for me but only if Photoshop Beta is open or neither versions are open, in which case it opens Beta. If Photoshop is open, it tries to open there and goes through the ridiculous process above.

It's a right mess alright.

Darren

Whilst this all sounds good in theory, the reality is that the practice is not quite so simple. First, Lightroom only uses the graphics chip for some specific tasks, so not everything is accelerated. You can see what it can use it for here.

Second, the performance benefits are only usually apparent in specific situations. There is an overhead associated with using the graphics chip, as data has to be offloaded from the CPU to the graphics chip, processed, and then sent back again.

The tip here therefore is to adjust your workflow to be sure that you are editing images sequentially, rather than hopping around all over the place. What I do is use the library to filter the images I am going to work on using the various tools (flags, star ratings etc), and I only load them into the Develop module when I have a series of images that all require editing.
