Hi, WP Writing SIG,
You may recall that both our SIG meeting and our preconference workshop on transitioning from teaching comp to teaching workplace writing were both accepted for the '21 CCCC meeting (to be held April 7-10, virtually). The conference program team just confirmed that we'll need to hold our SIG meeting at some other time on a platform of our choice, so Geoff will be in touch with you about that. But our workshop is on! So Matt Baker, Gina Genova, Matt Gilchrist, and I have begun planning the workshop in earnest. It will be held on Wed., April 7, from 2 to 4:30, and you are welcome to join us (you'll have to register for the conference, too, though).
Could you please help us in these two ways?
--Email me (
kathry...@uc.edu) or respond to this message with a description of your current teaching situation. In what dept/program do you teach? What workplace-writing courses do you teach, and how did you get prepared to teach them? What adjustments did you need to make when you began teaching where you're now teaching or began teaching workplace writing? The reason we're asking for you "workplace writing story" is that the first part of the workshop will focus on the many different situations in which people might find themselves teaching workplace writing and what kinds of adaptations might be necessary.
--Email me (kathryn.rentz) your syllabi for your workplace writing courses, a sample assignment, and/or a helpful grading rubric/method so we can share these via a Word packet to the attendees. Anything that you think could be helpful to people making the move to teaching workplace writing is welcome!
We look forward to getting a glimpse into your teaching world and will appreciate your help making this first workshop a big success!
Kathy
