to Workplace Writing SIG
Hello, compadres, and happy summer. Before I get to my announced topic . . . Gina, I thought your idea for a panel discussion at the Cs 2023 was fantastic. For some reason, I didn't get an announcement in my email when you posted that (or when Geoff posted his invitation for panel ideas). I'll look into my notification settings so that won't keep happening. But, yes, yikes, some in the Cs have gone crazy with their attack on (what one set of presenters called) a "meritocratic approach to teaching writing"--and the "students' right to their own language" movement has certainly fed into some comp teachers' reluctance to help students learn to use what their employers/co-workers and likely most of their customers will expect them to use. It is a GREAT topic, and I hope we can run a SIG-sponsored panel on it in 2024.

But meanwhile . . . I'm happy to announce that we have a corresponding SIG in ABC, the 4Cs SIG. This "official" status will help us keep the workplace-writing/comp-rhet connections going and bring in more folks to share resources and help with Cs workshops and presentations. We will be on the program of ABC's annual conference this October, in Tampa. If you'll be at the conference, please come and help us get this SIG off to a good start! And if you're willing to chair it (I'm just acting as "coordinator"), please let me/us know!

And BTW, thanks to Geoff Clegg for submitting our proposal to meet at 4Cs 2023!

Kathy
