to Workplace Writing SIG
Both our Workplace Writing SIG meeting and our half-day pre-conference workshop, "From Teaching Composition to Teaching Workplace Writing: Making an Effective Transition," were approved for 4Cs 2021! This is great news for ABC and for the field of bcomm in general--and great news for many of those rhet/comp people out there who've been thrown into teaching workplace writing with minimal or no preparation!

Geoff submitted out SIG proposal and has been a great leader for us in this area. So, Geoff, would you take the planning/communications for the SIG from here? And I will be the coordinator for the workshop. We invite your ideas and participation, everyone, for both of these events.

I've attached again the workshop proposal that we submitted. Our workshop team--Matt Baker, Matt Gilchrist, Gina Genova, and I--would like to give another special shout-out to Kristen Getchell, whose earlier proposal we relied upon heavily when crafting the one for the 2021 conference.

FYI, here are the leads for the specific segments of the workshop:

First segment of the workshop (with all of us chiming in) on “Participants’ Situations and Goals,” Kathy

Second segment, “What Is Workplace Communication,” bringing in some observations about the differences between teaching workplace writing and comp/WID/WAC (with others chiming in), Matt G

Third segment, “Assignments and Course Structure” (with others chiming in), Matt B

Fourth segment, “Competencies and Assessment” (with others chiming in), Gina

Mentoring Tables, all

Wrap up, Kathy and all

If you're interested in helping with any of these segments, please message the leads for those segments to let them know. We'd love your ideas/participation!

We're going to start meeting (virtually, of course) in January to begin fleshing out the workshop plan. We hope to have drafts of each segment done by sometime in February and then a whole draft to review/finalize in March. The dates for the conference are April 7-10 (later than usual). Wouldn't it we wonderful if it were safe to travel/meet then? We can always hope. :>)

Thanks to all of your for your contributions to this initiative, and good luck getting through this craziest term of all time.

Kathy
