Hi everybody,

I am sending this note to those who could and could not attend this year's SIG meeting. We had a rollicking conversation about a number of topics. It's time for us to channel those ideas into something more concrete. I have two major projects I want us to work on.

Project 1: Workshops and panels for CCCC 2022 and ABC 2021
We need to work together to submit material for both conferences. If possible, we should shoot for both a workshop and a panel for the Cs and the same for ABC. From our conversation yesterday, we can target the following ideas:
  • Teaching focus
  • Technology in the classroom
  • Writing in professional and business communication
  • Anti-racist pedagogies in professional writing
  • Labor and grading in professional writing
  • Training for non-subject matter expert teaching for the first time
  • Disability in the professional writing classroom
Of course, we can also target any ideas you might have. The list above is a simple breakdown of possibilities for either panels or workshops.

Project 2: Creating a Special Interest Group for the Cs in ABC
Think of this as a two-way channel (wormhole?) between the organizations. Kathy suggested that we try to get an effective gateway for recruitment for both organizations since we share similar missions. A SIG could actively allow us to involve ourselves in a dynamic way across organization to better gain a foothold into critical conversations or open new conversations within our respective fields.

Please feel free to brainstorm and consider potential ideas that could effectively help energize our emerging SIG!

It was great seeing everyone this year. To our new members, we hope you contribute and advance professional writing in all forms to new people!

Best,

Geoff

Geoff, thanks for circulating the meeting notes.

·       I’ll interested in a panel or roundtable on the last topic you listed: Disability in the professional writing classroom.

Thanks,

Sushil

Geoff, thank you so much for collecting this info for us. I am so sorry to have missed the meeting. My institution decided to have a last-minute town hall meeting for all faculty about reopening in fall at the exact time of our SIG. Boo!

I'll take a peek at all this good stuff and get back to you on the new projects.
