The Ardnamurchan Spirit series has been a successful way for us to share the direction of our early sherry maturation. The 2016/AD & 2017/AD Spirits were limited to just 2,500 bottles for the world, 2018 & 2019 were doubled to 5,000 bottles. AD stands for both Anno Domini and Ardnamurchan Distillery. All these releases have been matured in experimental 55-litre American oak ex-Sherry octaves, Spanish oak ex-Sherry hogsheads and Spanish oak ex-Sherry butts.
2020 is a very exciting year for The Ardnamurchan distillery. We will have whisky in cask that has been matured for 6 years. We are also looking to release our inaugural Single Malt toward the end of this year.
Born in Fraserburgh, Glover moved East in his late teens and, post the Treaty of Amity and Commerce in 1858 between Japan and Great Britain, he sought to bring western trade and culture to Japan, founded companies that have since flourished (including Mitsubishi), was the first foreigner to be awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, and is still revered in Japan to this day with some two million visitors to his house in Nagasaki each year.
The plan was simple: Blend of Scotch with Japanese within the UK. In practice, a little more difficult, but Adelphi developed a method, and also managed to secure a cask of extraordinarily rare whisky from Japan.
Initially developed in two guises, the ultra-premium 22yr old, and premium 14yr old Glovers were simultaneously launched in Aberdeen and Tokyo and received international press coverage, including primetime BBC news. Both versions sold out overnight.
Since this initial launch in 2015, Adelphi has gone on to produce a further 3 Glovers, and has also introduced new collaborative blends with the Netherlands (The Winter Queen), Australia (The Brisbane) and India (The E&K). All of the fusion whiskies are named after Scots who have been highly influential in that partner country.
The Miltonduff 40 years old 1982 Adelphi Limited is an old Speyside single malt from the Miltonduff distillery bottled by the independent bottler Adelphi for their 30th anniversary. This Miltonduff was distilled in 1092 and matured in refill bourbon hogshead 3726. It was bottled in 2023 at natural cask strength of 50,4% ABV, non chill filtered and with no added colour, as a limited single cask release of 224 bottles.
Adelphi Paper Hangings has selected five of the colorways which interior designer Kelee Katillac has created, pairing our historic patterns with non-traditional color choices. Read more about Kelee Katillac and what inspired her to create this colorway.
With two distinct versions of this pattern available in early 19th century America, and two additional reproductions offered by mid-20th century manufacturers, this pattern must certainly have been hung in a great many homes over the last 200 years.
The original document used to prepare our version is from the archives at Colonial Williamsburg. Another print from the same block belongs to Historic New England. Also in their collection is a design in which the pattern elements are noticeably bulkier. As Richard Nylander has noted in Wallpaper in New England, this type of pattern was based on early 19th century French neoclassical designs. It is difficult to say whether one of these is a copy of the other or if they were both inspired by a common French source.
The 20th century, commercially printed versions of this paper differed in their interpretation of the original. One was more or less the same scale but used two colors of print paint in an attempt to mimic the variations of the transparent 19th century paint. The other company, accustomed to larger patterns, increased the size by several inches, which was not an uncommon practice.
Samples are available for all Adelphi Paper Hangings patterns. Standard pattern samples are 12 inches by 23 inches and are available for $15. for each pattern. Small samples, business envelope size, are available on request, at no charge (limited to 10 per customer).

Regarded by many as one of Scotland's finest bottlers of whisky, Adelphi's limited edition and single cask expressions are some of the most sought-after drams on our shelves today. Adelphi select and bottle just a tiny handful of casks each year, carefully selected from distilleries around Scotland that represent the truly exceptional.
The Sndebud is a pioneerring fusion of single cask whiskies from Scotland and Sweden, created in honour of Scottish Lawyer turned merchant, Colin Campbell who moved to Sweden in 1731, where he co-founded the Swedish East India Trading Company. A world first, bottled at cask strength, this whisky is a fusion of peated and unpeated malt, creating a wonderfully balanced, characterful dram.
Adelphi's Private stock is a blend of whiskies selected by one of Scotland's most famed independent bottlers. This is a smooth dram with plenty of honeyed sweetness from Spey and Highland malts, a touch of sea-side maritime notes from a coastal distillery and a gentle peat-fire smokyness in the background. A very traditional and old-fashioned flavoured blend that belongs in any whisky drinker's cupboard.
As one of the highlights of their 30th anniversary releases, this Adelphi selection comes from a 26 year old cask from the Bowmore distillery on Islay. This is an archetype of Bowmore of this age and vintage - an exquisite mixture of complex fruits, savoury tones and a perfectly integrated peat smoke.
Colour: Ruby-tinged amber.
Nose:, Umami-rich mushroom, rancio-style Madeira, Worcestershire sauce, truffle, decomposing wood, aged parmesan, old book, venison jus, eucalyptus, aged balsamic, Saint Nectaire cheese, juniper.
Palate: Stock cube, sweet celery, Bovril, poutine, hawthornberry, smoked Old Fashioned, leather armchair, cigar ash.
Finish: Integrated and subtle peat smoke, endless complexity.
An incredibly rare sight these days, this late 90's Bunnahabhain was chosen from a single refill ex-Oloroso sherry Gorda cask. Adelphi's tasting notes describe a very dense and rich whisky, laden with notes of sultanas, dried figs, quince, dark chocolate and intense fruit loaf. To taste, star anise and tobacco leaf, with caramel and salt cutting through. Waves of chocolate and caramel join intense umami savoury notes of oyster sauce and Chinese black vinegar.
Drawn from a refill bourbon hogshead from the Miltonduff distillery, this special single cask bottling matured for four decades before reaching the peak of its maturation. A sensational and defining example of wood influence and spirit in harmony.
Nose: Oxidised and fusty apple, orchard floor, bruised fruit, Calvados, homemade apple crumble, Chantilly cream, lilac, eau de vie, winegums, sandalwood, perfumed wood, peony, lime zest, lime cordial, elderflower cordial, grated lime zest in cream, almond flour.
