I've been an avid Boggle player online for several years now, ever
since I first found Michael Sinz's wonderful http://www.wordwiggle.com
website, which allows for various online boggle-like tournaments.
My partner is certain that I've gone crazy, as I've devoted countless
hours every week to this obsession. What makes it so interesting to me
is that I can see my progress over time, along with all of the other
players. I feel like I know them as I've seen them progress or
struggle with me, but we've never really had much of a way to interact
with each other beyond customizing the titles of the various
tournaments and subtle other aspects around how and when we play the
game.
I want to get to chat a bit with you other players, at least a little,
and so am trying out a group forum here. Granted that this site may be
too limited for it - so if you join up and chat, then I'm certainly
open to suggestions on the appropriate venue...

downloaded it for my Palm Pilot. It is obvious that the originator of
the site is from the UK. There are so many words that I am unfamiliar
with. I don't have a chance against the English men/women. This is a
great idea you had. You think you are slow, I don't think I have ever
beat one of your scores. Typing is not the problem. I used to type
for a living and could type 130 wpm in my prime. I just have a hard
time finding the long words that add up the scores. I have just
gotten to where I can do the 4+ words!
Sometimes my husband, daughter and son help out and of course my score
rises with their help.

Good idea to create this site. Like cacky, I downloaded the game to my
palm and from there was addicted! I often play on my lunch hour at
work so I only have time for a few games. To me its just good fun, not
competition, as I rarely look at the scores that are emailed. See you
on the scoreboard!

Hi Cacky! Same with me, I learned of it from my PalmPilot! In fact I
used to play several games on my palmpilot such as Scrabble, but as the
dictionaries were all different I had to stick with one game as I
couldn't keep remembering which words were OK for which dictionaries...

Hi FredPP! So you are another Palmer! In my case, the firewall at the
office prevents me from playing from work - which is very lucky for me!
I would surely get in trouble otherwise...
You noted that you don't check the scores... Like I mentioned to Cacky,
I play more for 'competition' but not to win - rather just to compete
with the others who are consistently near my score - I find it a neat
way to see how well I am doing. I'm amazed at how much variation there
can be in which words I manage to see in a board from one day to
another, as compared to the other players. Being even a bit tired or
distracted can have a big effect.

I go hot and cold on looking at the scores that come through email. I
do check and see whose playing when I sign in on a game. I find
motivation in trying to at least make it into the middle to upper
scores. Being from America, I am at a disadvantage as I am not
familiar with all the UK terms. I try some American terms/slang, and
some are accepted, some are not, like "dixie" (I'm from Georgia). I
like the 3+, games and try the 4+ games, forget the 5+, etc. I'm
horrible at them!! My husband and I used to play Boggle all the time.
Now we "wiggle" at night. I find it very relaxing.

list. I add the new vocabulary words from time to time and refer back
to them while "wiggling". I just can't remember all of them. I still
usually only range in the middle of the scores. But... I'm improving,
when I first started, I was usually in the lower scores. My daughter
started playing when she gets the time, as she is in college, her name
is punk_kid.

I'm right here in the middle of America too and have the same problem
with terms that you do. Many of them I've never heard of. I guess I
do check the scores from time to time but not often. I watch them more
closely while I'm playing. I also play the 3+ games more than the
others. Every now and then I'll get in a 4+ game but the 5+, I'd be
laughed out of the running by the pro's!! Cya there!

PalmPilot and got me on to it. I soon switched to the website version,
as it gives you the chance to see how you scored against others.
I find the 3+ games, especially the 1min, 3x3 3+ ones, to be hard
because you need to know lots of obscure 3 letter words, whereas with
the 4+ or 5+ games, players tend to score with common words. Though
when I first started trying the 5+ games on larger boards, I found that
trying to find long words amongst so many letters seriously frazzled
the brain after a few games!

I am rubberchicken.
I have been playing for about a year and a half or is it more.
I play the small boards because I don't have much time. Usually i try
not to spend more than 10 minutes in a day. So much else to do. I am a
slow player. I rarely play fast. My favourite are boards with only 10
to 40 words on them in all.
I made an effort to learn all the 3 letter words. That helps on the
small boards. But i have trouble spotting them anyways. I have not
bothered to increase my vocabulary since then. But one day I will make
en effort to learn the 4 letter words.
I wish there was a way to see how I am improving. That would be
encouraging. I know intuitively that i am better than last year but it
would be nice to know by how much. A year ago I was a little weaker
than "glynnes" . I improved but so did she. So I am still behind
Glynnes. Also I was catching up the Baroness and Flying Joe even though
they are out of my league. But recently Flying Joe has improved. So I
am falling a bit behind even though I know that I am improving. Is
there a way to tell if you are improving without comparing yourself to
others. Yes I realize that I could take my average score on a hundred
games but I am too lazy.
To motivate myself I try to aim at beating someone just a bit stronger.
For me it is glynnis and ricolow.

I started on the low end, and my goal was to stay up with Smokeyblue.
I have improved and now sometimes manage to stay right below FredPP's
score. Glynnis and Baroness (and Flying Joe) are out of my league.
But it is good incentive to try to improve. Sometimes I do better on
the 1 min, 3x3, 3+ and at other times, I do better with the longer
timed ones. It depends on how tired I am.

Palm Pilot and would play occasionally. In October of last year I had
to have surgery to have my gallbladder removed and I was in the
hospital for a week. When he came to the hospital in the evenings after
work he would play and finally I decided I would try it and I loved it.
When I got out of the hospital I spent my 6 weeks recovering playing
the game. Now he plays World of Warcraft and I play Word Wiggle.
I find that I can relieve a lot of stress by playing. My sister and I
get on and compete with each other. Her name on Word Wiggle is
Manda91003(or something like that). We are neither one very good
usually we score somewhere right in the middle. I try to keep the
dictionary open in the background so I can check to make sure my words
are real words.
My favorite puzzles are the 5x5 1 minute games or the 5x5 3 minute
games.

I know that I am seriously addicted to this, but I imagine if I was
playing World of Warcraft like your husband, who knows how many hours
could go by. He's lucky you have your own WordWiggle addiction too!
I'm impressed if you play the 1 minute 5x5 board. I find that very
hard to do, but I am trying to change from what I am better at, which
is the longer time limits. I'm doing those Nightmare boards and stuff,
and I hope that I will make some progress with practice... It keeps it
interesting!

I have been playing on the wordwiggle site for only about 7 months.
this was when I joined an MSN group dedicated to quizzing and puzzles,
and they run a wordwiggle tournament weekly for group members. We
always play 7x7 4min, so I started playing the various public games
for a bit of variety.
I have found I am utterly hopeless at any game where you need to have
a good memory for obscure words, hence my best scoring games tend to
be the larger grids where there are a lot of words available as I am
quite quick at entering them. If only I could learn to type I might be
able to squeeze a few more in by doing it that way instead of using
the mouse!
I do play the 3x3 1min grids too as obviously they don't take too
long, but anything longer than a minute on such a small grid is too
long, I get bored and switch off before the timer even runs out!

You do know that if you click on the timer, it zeros the time and
scores your board for you. This is useful if you think you got all
of the words you can and there is still time left.
One of these days I should get back into WordWiggle and write
a better "manual" for the site. (Hey, at least I am still paying for
the bandwidth and server space - but then it is on a server I
have other sites on so it is minor incremental costs)

We all need an out now and then, and this is a usefull tool, but as we
find, thinking you got all of the words you can and getting all of the
words you can are two very different realities.
I am very new here,
I signed up today as widge (I am going to change that, now that I'm
sold., To something with a 4 and a few caps so I can find myself in
the muss) I've been playing at <http://weboggle.shackworks.com/
game.html> for about 1.5 years, and before that on software.
I spent the day here and will be back frequently.
Thanks to flyingjoe, and rubberchicken as some of my first competitors
today, and my first wiggle mentors here on the board.

I've tried the one you noted too, and I'm very impressed by the scores
that people get there! I usually can't get any higher than among the
10th or 20th at that site. But you don't get dinged for wrong guesses
there either. They also have a slightly different dictionary, so
you'll have a bit of a learning curve here at first. Hang in there,
because with your practice and speed from that site, you'll adapt
quickly here!

Thanks for the hint about stopping the clock. I have been keeping
extra windows open to jump over to when the game has stumped me but I
still have more time.
I guess I have been on the site for just over a year now.
I am one of the low scorers but I play to keep ( what skills I have )
up! I mainly want to improve my Boggle scores so I usually only play 4
x4 boards and occassionaly the 3 x3.
