JUST A SIMPLE MESSAGE FROM A SIMPLE MAN
5/15/25
I find myself ruminating over our present circumstance in our nation. I've always thought that there was a large consensus or a reasonable amount of people, that wanted what was best for a nation. It seemed reasonable to me that good always finds a way to triumph over evil, and I still believe that. And yet, as I've said before, we have now entered into a time period, where many if not most, of the guard rails that have helped protect our democracy, are now being sabotaged.
Many are indeed, standing up to this fascist regime, and some so far, have been successful in their cases. But with what has been torn asunder, repairing what has been lost, may never be rebuilt again as it was. Say what you will, but a democracy and a constitution that has endured for almost 250 years, is worth saving to prevent its total demise.
But the ball has been rolling, and many of those things that should have remained untouched, are now becoming rubble because of what is continuing to happen. It's like an avalanche that has started at the top of the mountain. We see the huge boulders and rocks, starting to slide. Then it all picks up speed, and all too soon, the huge rocks and debris, are burying us.
I should know that there are some of my friends here on FB that perhaps are not convinced of these things; I know that all too well. But maybe we can find a way to see what we share in common, and find a way to keep the entire forest from burning down.
It's not just about a Jumbo Jet gift, or even taking over Greenland. It's about common decency where children are left alone in a security facility without food or safety. To me it feels like the erasure of a common heritage; of American civility, and the beginning of the new regime. Is this truly what would make America great again, or is this where Nero eventually picks up his violin to play while Rome is burning?
We need to think how we can prepare for all of this, and yet, it's not about building bomb shelters or even growing our own food. Of course one would want to feel safe, and have a sense of security at this time. The safety net has been lifted, and yet perhaps real security does not always come from what we see. Without a sense of one's faith, then indeed, where would our hope be?
I don't see a golden age ahead, and yet I certainly wouldn't want a dystopian era ahead either. All through history, there have been times when the citizens have risen up in revolt. Sometimes they were successful and other times they weren't. But when people begin to lose their freedoms, and their earnings are dwindling because of cuts, or exorbitant prices, then it's time to speak up.
I think that eventually, if not sooner, even those on the right, are now seeing that you've been duped. Most of these great plans that are being made, are for benefiting the rich and affluent. Promises that were to happen on day one, have been shown to be meritless.
So, I guess we just need to tighten-up our belts and find ways of cutting back. I mean, it's only right that we should sacrifice for the nation, so that the wealthy can pay less in taxes and live even richer.
But what do I know, I'm just a simple man, but even Lynyrd Skynyrd knew that wasn't a bad thing.
