Good morning dear friends in Christ!
Our upcoming weekend looks as absolutely beautiful as creation can bless us with!
May we remember with deep appreciation and thanks to God this Memorial day weekend those who have given us the gift of our civil freedom!
Truly we have blessings to be grateful for!
We also have challenges, and once again our community has been presented with difficult economic news as National/Stanley announced the plant closing within one year. There are several from St. John's currently employed there, and many friends as well. Please hold each person in prayer as yet another community transition will come to be. May we pray for creative and inspired people who will "re-invent" our community so that the excellent work force that resides here may find just employment for the good of all!!
Sunday is the day we celebrate the Holy Trinity, the first Sunday after Pentecost. There is no other day quite like it in the church year. "O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth."
Sunday is also farewell day for Nancy and I as sabbatical begins on June 1st. Many months of preparation have gone into the planning. It is amazing to me that almost 6 years have passed since Nancy arrived in Sterling/Rock Falls. Truly we have been blessed and are grateful for this time together this summer. I am filled with gratifude for a time to deeply renew and listen for God's voice as we begin a new chapter in our shared faith life! May we each and every one find rest, renewal and a heightened sense of mission through these months of Pentecost!!
Here are the readings for Sunday:
Proverbs 8:1-4, 22-31
Psalm 8
Romans 5:1-5
John 16:12-15
Take time to thank God for our national home! I look forward to seeing you on Sunday!!
Grace and peace,
Pastor Mark
