Good afternoon to each and every one of you!

It is good to be home following the annual Internship conference at Wartburg Seminary.  Having met Rita Augsburger and part of her family- (two of her four children) I believe we are in for yet another blessed year as the “classroom” for the formation toward the office of pastor in the ELCA.  Rita will bring her youngest son, Ryan, with her to Sterling when she begins her internship early August, 2010.  Her older three children are or will be in college.  Rita’s husband is deceased.  Rita has great passion for our Lord’s ministry, and looks forward to meeting God’s congregation called St. John’s.  Rita has an open spirit and looks forward to sharing her energy and commitment to our Lord in the coming year.

I must say that Nancy and I and our entire family are overwhelmed with your presence, calls, cards and communiqué’s of your love and concern at the news of my mother, Dorothy Oehlert, upon her arrival in heaven above.   In case you did not hear, her funeral was in Sycamore this past Monday, April 19th at Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore.  From our hearts to yours, THANK YOU!!  We are entirely blessed to live with you as God’s people.  What a joy to celebrate a life well lived in the Easter promise of Jesus Christ!!  Of course there are tears as we grieve, and yet we know that this world is not the end!  Thanks be to God for new life in Christ!

This Sunday is Good Shepherd Sunday, the day we celebrate the many ministries and our vital partnership with Lutheran Social Services of Illinois.  Truly as Lutherans we answer the call of Jesus to walk with the least of these among us.  Our Mission Support (benevolence) shared with the Northern Illinois Synod is a powerful witness in our local community and throughout the state of Illinois.  Perhaps you remember Pastor Denver Bitner, the leader of LSSI, being with us a few weeks ago?

Good Shepherd Sunday is celebrated annually as a reminder of our important partnership!

Scripture for Sunday is a follows:

Acts 9:36-43

Psalm 23

Revelation 7:9-17

John 21:1-19

Grace and peace to you, I truly look forward to worship with you tomorrow!

Pastor Mark
