I'm aware of the issue people are facing with an expired code-signing certificate, and am taking steps to address it. It's an expensive and time-consuming process, which, each year, makes me want to give up on Wordle. But I'm gritting my teeth for one more!

Look for resolution in a day or two.

Please hurry!!!  I'm on a deadline for my yearbook and have already created a bunch of wordles for it and need more and want to match style, color, etc so I don't want to use a different word art application!!!  Thanks so much!!!

I know supporting a free web-app must suck parts of our soul away... especially when people yell and say things like "please hurry".   But rest assured your app is APPRECIATED, and we very much value the effort you put in.

Thanks, everyone, for the very kind words. I'll get everything back up and running as soon as possible. I'm waiting on the code-signing cert sales folks to do the verification process, so it's out of my hands for a short while.

I join those with fingers crossed and appreciating your work! I'm so looking forward to using it for a new book I'm about to give to my publisher. Too bad I left the word clouds to the very last minute :-(

Just a little extra motivation as you're updating the certificate :-)

Hi Johnathan,

Thank you for maintaining this site even though most users can be a bit demanding. I for one appreciate the work you have done. I think Wordle is worth the wait.

To be honest I wish I could code as well but with all the computer languages out there it's hard to decide on which to focus on.

Thanks again

Has anyone been able to get this to work with the new certification? I'm trying on both Internet Explorer & Chrome with no luck. I've gone into my Java Control Center and inputted all wordle links I could think of into the exception site list but I keep getting this error message.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

This is not related to the certificate issue that people were experiencing; this is a separate problem, namely, that Chrome no longer supports Java at all. Chrome users can no longer use Wordle.

Hi, Stephen
thanks for your info.
Could you be a little more specific about the app you updated and what you actually did ("I fumbled my way")? Because I tried and tried through Mozilla, to no avail. First of all: have you got Windows 7 (like I have)? Thanks again for your time, anyway.
I also wonder if there's anyone who can still use Wordle and how? What are his pc and browser's specifics?

Hello Jonathan,

We are a school and having the same issues as others, still not fixed.

We have whitelisted the websites, *.appspot.com, ?*.googleapis.com and have IE 11 and Google v44 and Java 8.51 and still get the error as below on Internet Explorer.

Could you please advise?

For Chrome though, if you enable NPAPI from flags (chrome://flags/#enable-npapi) and relaunch the browser, it appears to load Java (i.e., you get the prompts to accept the certificate and on machines which has lower version of Java, prompts to update or Later and you are able to move forward) and only on one machine did we actually get the picture to load fine, others just a blank white page (tried export to see if its just not visible and it exported whitepage).

Regards,
Ramu

I don't know what makes a 'seasoned systems administrator'.. I am the administrator for my school and I have asked staff to not use the site as its broken. That is my fix.

I have tested your website from home and experience the same issue, so its not my network issue, the website is broken, whether you like it or not, until you can come out with something that everyone here can follow, its deemed broken.

Ramu

Ok, so I liked Wordle alot and finally got it to work beautifully in Firefox (latest stable 36.0.4) on Linux Mint 17.1. Update Java if you need to.
Btw, I couldn't get it to work on Windows 10 in Chrome 44 nor Firefox beta.
Awesome app!
Thanks Jonathan

I'm using Windows 8.1 on this PC.
Installed the latest version of Mozilla Firefox - http://getfirefox.com
Installed the latest version of Adobe Flash - http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
I had to do a Java update also - https://java.com/en/download/ (latest release August 18, 2015)
Once all that was done - there's a matter of allowing the valid Java certificate through Firefox. You can check a box to always permit the application to run.

I should also say - the problem I was encountering with jibberish for menus has been fixed. it was probably a Java update issue.

After updating Java to 8.0.60 (latest release as of August 18, 2015) and then updating the Java plug in for Firefox 40, at long last success! :) All this on Ubuntu 14.04 via command line http://askubuntu.com/questions/649185/firefox-blocking-outdated-java-plugin.

Under Windows 10 the latest stable Firefox and Java do work on
http://www.wordle.net/create only if you if you click the "hamburger" symbol in upper right Firefox, and then under Security click "Allow & remember" for the 2 lines of allow options. Clicking just one line will not work by itself.

My 2015-10-11 at 11:04:26 PM is incorrect and incomplete.
1) I should not have replied via email, but should have replied directly to the forum.

2) I should have said:
Under Windows 10 the latest stable Firefox and Java do work on
http://www.wordle.net/create only if you if you click the "hamburger" symbol in upper right Firefox, and then under Options - Security - Exceptions, list "wordle.net" .  When you go to http://www.wordle.net/create allow Java and then click "Allow & remember" for the 2 lines of allow options. Clicking just one line will not work by itself.
3) Using Java Console I previously allowed
http://www.wordle.net as an exception, but this may not be necessary.

Hi everyone,

I've had the same issue with Java not working / not being activated with Firefox even when trying all the tips from Wordle FAQ.

I've tried this method to fix it: https://www.java.com/en/download/help/firefox_java.xml
The first method makes it work perfectly on my version of Java (Java Plug-in 11.73.2 for Mozilla browsers).

Hope it helps!

Tanya, as a currently successful Wordle user, I'll try to help. I assume you are trying to run Wordle under Windows 10 Home updated to the latest stable version. The command I run to see that is "winver" which for me shows Windows 10 Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.222). Wordle will only work under major browsers Firefox (I'm at Version 49.0.1) and IE11 (I'm at Version 11.187.14393.0 Update Version 11.035 (KB3185319). By running http://javatester.org/version.html I see My Java Vresion is 1.8.0_101 .

If Windows 10, and IE11 or Firefox is not current, I suggest you solve that problem first. If Java is not current, I suggest you fix that, and then try to run Wordle again.

I'm making a lot of assumptions here, so let us know if they are correct and helpful.

Addendum: On 2016-10-18 I used IE11 at Java.com to download Java Version 8 Update 111. When this competed, I accepted its offer to remove Version 8 Update 101. This worked well and on restarting IE11, Wordle still works well.

As of 11/27/2016 using Win10 Home and Firefox 50.0 Wordle.net is working beautifully.

Wordle still works well under Windows 10 x64 using its current IE11 and Java 8 Update 121. FYI.

I'm getting the Certificate problems here where I work, multiple users, IE11, Chrome, FireFox. Chrome just hangs there, IE says the 'Windows has blocked the software because it can't verify the publisher" (see attached screenshot), FireFox says the plugin has security vulnerabilities and no matter how many times I hit "Allow and Remember" it doesn't work. Windows 8 machines.

I see the same bug as Justin Raethel: "FireFox says the plugin has security vulnerabilities and no matter how many times I hit "Allow and Remember" it doesn't work. Windows 8 machines."
in Windows 10 x64 running Firefox 51.0.1 (32 bit). The fix for me was to play with the combinations of ways to select Java. Once the permanent accept takes, it's persistent.

As expected per http://www.ghacks.net/2017/03/07/firefox-52-0-released-find-out-what-is-new/ , Wordle no longer works for me under Windows 10 x64 Home with the new Firefox version 52.0 . IE11 continues to work well for me. See my referenced link above for more information, and a possible Firefox circumvention which I do not plan on using. FYI.

I installed Windows Creators Update  Version 1703 (OS Build 15063.13) today 2017-04-06 using Microsoft's Windows 10 Update Assistant.over Windows 10 AU on my home laptop. Everything works so far, including Wordle under IE11 Version 1.0.15063.0 , Update Version 11.0.40 (KB4012204). I don't recommend going to CU yet for stability and safety reasons, but it works fine for me. FYI.
