Having upgraded to Snow Leopard I cannot get Wordle to work at all on
my Mac. I input the text, press Go and then - nothing! The words
disappear and I'm left with a blank slate again. I have changed Safari
to open in 32-bit, have enabled the Java console to be shown under
preferences, changed the order of the default Java Applet Plugins and
Application to 32-bit in preference to 64-bit, with no joy. I am
running the default Java SE 6.0.

Similar story with Firefox on the same computer.

I am having to get out my old Windows laptop and create my Wordles on
that. I then have to transfer the saved pdf over to my main machine.
It is just a clunky workaround.

Can anyone help?

I've got a MacBookPro running SnowLeopard. I've done 2 Wordles in
your honor to see if I could make it work. In both Wordles I made I
got the usual coffee cup logo for Java and another different logo for
Java both showing progress circles. Again, this showed up for both
efforts. Unusual but not indicative of impending doom.

The first Wordle was generated then, I swiftly exited the window to
write this reply and when I did that, Safari crashed like a Tuna
hitting the dock. Safari's window was just gone, no warning or hang,
just gone. I got a crash message about sending info to Apple & blah
blah blah so you know it was a hard crash.

Intrigued, I tried again and could not / did not replicate the crash.
In fact I was able to "Print to" and generated a PDF of the Wordle.
During this testing I have only had Safari and (of course) the Finder
running. Shamefully, I've neglected to try this in Firefox.

Since this is happening using both browsers I'd look to see what else
could be exclusively on your machine that might be giving Java a
difficult time.
Change anything else recently? Have you done a Repair Permissions or
Single User restart lately? Perhaps that could bring things into
alignment.

That's it for me, I'm out. Anyone else?

There's known errors with Java on Snow Leopard.  I've had similar problems.  One thing to try is to be sure that Safari and Firefox are running as 64-bit applications (Get-info box).  I found running them as 32-bit (as has been needed for AdBlock and/or 1Password add-ins to work) totally kills all Java apps.

Hope that helps.

here is an update for Safari news
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/11/11/apple_releases_safari_4_0_4_with_security_flaw_patch.html

First off it mentions better Java implementation. So try that and see
if it helps.
You may improve things quite a bit. I'm thinking perhaps you have an
app that the current Safari release doesn't care for and this might
make it a non-issue.

We hope
