So I recently bought an Archer T6E wireless adapter. I installed it in the PCI-E slot of my motherboard. The LED was a constant green, so it was receiving power. However it does not appear in the Device Manager. It is on a clean install of Windows 10. I cannot install the driver through the disc included or through the driver download off of the website as it says the device isn't detected. The adapter isn't dead as the LED shows its receiving power. What should I do?
Any update on this?
I have newly bought AC1300 v2 and it's driver is not working properly.
Device manager is detecting it as Unknown Device > Network Controller. Any methods on how to fix this? Already tried downloading the latest driver and still a no go.
As far as I understand, unless you install the driver successfully on the computer, it will show up under Unknown Device or Other Devices, can you please confirm? You may try to reinstall the driver from the below link, then check:
@Kevin_Z
Installing the latest driver for T6E doesn't do anything.
As you can see from the image below, after installing the driver downloaded from the tp-link website: Link
it doesn't add a new adapter for network. i guess the driver is wrong.
It seems I don't know how to install the link you have provided me. Can you do me a detailed instruction for this? Thanks a lot!
Is this Windows 10 a self-build system? It's better to run some system software to check the system itself if running properly with all parameters on it, then try to install the driver manually again. You may also check the installation video here: -link.com/support/download/archer-t6e/.
If your adapter is identified as an unknown network adapter in your device manager, right-click on the device, and select update drivers, go for the option that lets you select the files from your computer. Then download the drivers for your version of windows over here -link.com/en/support/download/archer-t6e/#Driver
The problem is that after few hours windows automatically replace the drivers with some Microsoft (29/07/2019 1030.38.712.2019) and the device start having issues again, Is there a newer driver i can install or a way to stop windows from updating the drivers for this devices?
You could try to reach computer support/ Mircrosoft and see if they have any suggestions on stopping PC from instally the automatially detected driver. There should have some settings to change on computer and they could provide more professional suggestions on it.
Sorry for the very late reply but i'm still fighting with this, the driver proveded on the tp-link driver works well but unfortunatly windows after few hours will replace it with a newer version from microsoft which doesn't work too well.
Is it possibile to have a modified version of the driver with the relase date updated so that the driver will appear as the newest?
I am new to linux and CLI. I am not able to find instructions on how to install network drivers for the TP Link's Archer AC1300. The support documents have instructions only for certain distributions of linux (couldn't find Arch linux in there).
I do have a native WiFi card on my laptop which was recognized and works flawlessly out of the box, but it's slow. I want to use the TP Link wireless adapter as it offers better range and speeds. On Windows 10, it's recognized as soon as I plug it in and am able to select which wifi card I want to use. ( Ihad windows 10 previously installed on this machine; and no, I don't have dual boot; Garuda Linux is the only OS I am using.)
So then, I assume this information is about your older internal Intel wifi adapter. Can you disable this internal adapter in your bios? If so, I would download and install the proper driver and an older LTS kernel and then disable the internal adapter via the bios (if possible).
tbg: Thank you for all the help, I really appreciate it. Being relatively new to Linux and that too Arch, I'm going to refrain myself from going through the pains of making the AC1300 work. I was hoping it would be much easier TBH. I'll revisit this 'project', which it is now, at later date. Also, I need to do some reading on What GRUB is.
This is really no big deal. I asked you to install the lts kernel because it is more likely to work with your driver. However that may not be required. You should always have a fallback kernel installed regardless.
On a side note on my ethernet i have my NAS (Synology DS411+) and i tried to bridge my connection This opens up a whole new can of issues in terms of stability and internet access. But i will admit i can't confirm that this is related to my initial issue. I know my way around a computer (i started with DOS 3.21) but so far i have been unable to pinpoint the issue.
I have the same problem with my T4U v3
Windows keeps using the "TP-Link USB-Adapter driver" "date: 25.10.2018" the date is important later.
This driver does not work very well. It produces dropout every 5-10 seconds (recogniseable in gaming and downloads)
Ive installed the driver from the TP-Link support page. "date 12.02.2018" now it works fine.
The problem is the following: Windows uses the newer driver with every reboot.
The newer driver is a generic driver from microsoft. Not from TP-Link.
so in order to fix this problem you need to uninstall the generic driver and reinstall the TP-Link driver.
Please release a newer Driver @TP-Link!! so windows can pick always the newer one and therefore the right one.
(Just edit the date an resign it, that should do it). Btw the TP-Link driver works fine in all aspects.
Have to see what this does to my stability and if windows doesn't decide to renew the driver. As i recall having done this before since i had to uninstall my tp-link drivcer after uninstalling my device.
I Ended up buying a 3th unit for the attick. (I know im anidiiot i should have bought the 3 set from the beginning) Annyways. The M5 Deco is 1,5 meter away from the dongle and reception was still horrible even on the bedroom of my step son.
THIS FIXES ALL ISSUES WITH THE INTENDED DEVICE, JUST REMEMBER, when selecting the drivers for W10X64 it will provide a lot of drivers for Realtek WLAN products, search and install RTL8812BU.
I still have occasional drop out every exactly 10/20/30/40/50s while playing a game. It is very likely an issue with the Archer T4U because I have tried the same wifi on a laptop with internal wifi hardware and it works perfectly fine.
I tried to ping some random IP while playing the game (the IP you find when using netstat command in cmd) and it seems like the dropout happen every exact 20 seconds apart. It shows as a sudden increase in input delay ranging between 700 - 1400 ms (to some IP that I tested with ping command in cmd). So I guess it was not enough for the ping to be counted as a request timed out and hence a loss packet. Once I stopped the game, the ping went back to normal thereafter.
I recently bought a Archer T4U v3 USB Adapter, and everytime i boot my computer the driver resets from the official TP-Link Driver to a generic Realtek Driver, which causes massive packet loss in my connection making it impossible to use. Is there a way to prevent windows 10 from switching the drivers everytime i boot? The only workaround i found was to repair the TP-Link driver through the app, but everytime i reboot the Realtek gets installed again.
Everytime i reboot the PC i get the usb disconnected and connected sound and the driver changes from the TP-Link to a Realtek. When i repair the driver with the TP-Link application, the driver changes to the correct one, and it works fine when i do that, but when i reboot the pc, the driver gets overwritten by the realtek one and i get massive packet losses with it.
I never installed any realtek driver, windows 10 installed it automatically when i inserted the usb adapter on the pc for the first time, and even if i try to uninstall this driver it gets installed again.
@TNascimb to everyone who's having issues when using the T4U, don't use the TP-Link provided drivers, are CRAP, the most understandeable thing is to know wich chip uses the T4U V3, and thats in fact a Realtek RTL8812BU
@Lincer556 I have tried to download the link you provided but I am unable to install the driver via device manager. I tried to install using the setup after extracting the folder but the network adapter T4U V3 has no response.
This is what I did to prevent the roll back to Microsoft's driver from another forum. Solution is to prevent Windows from automatically upgrading drivers (System -> Advanced System Settings -> Hardware -> Device Installation Settings -> No)
Basically disable windows from updating the drivers automatically. To me, the TP-link drivers are definitely better than the Microsoft's driver but TP-Link's driver will spike every 20 seconds or so.
Simple... Most times the adapter will keep disconnecting (making sounds of USB connected/disconnected) if I select a 5GHz Network... From other search I've discovered that one of the problems is because this driver (on TP-LINK's website) is too "old" and windows keep trying to use a "newer" one. If I try to update the driver to the correct one (downloaded from TP-Link), sometimes the adapter will freeze, or keep restarting, or switch back to the default driver. So I have to unplug, replug, update driver again until it finally works.
The other problem is that sometimes I'll suspend or leave my PC unattended for some time, and then the connection is lost and I have to try my luck again with the cycle described above. I can't believe there's been 2 years since last driver update, because it's pretty obvious these won't work for 5GHz at all (various reports)... It doesn't even work properly for 2.4GHz because the connection is spotty (stuttering) if using the default driver.
I've attached the image above hoping that the issue is made clearer.
The driver 1) is what is installed when I download the software from TP-LINK's website. It works, but I need to try installing it 3 to 10 times before it's finally stable... sometimes the adapter will turn off completely and I have to replug it. When windows is restarted/turn off it goes back to the driver from Microsoft (because it's newer). I guess if you just updated the date on this driver and republish it, most of my issues with the adapter would be gone.
