Um yeah, that is super tacky and spammy as far as I'm concerned. I had
no idea that this was being planned and I'm not really a big fan of
it.

Some of the prizes should definitely be given randomly to people who
commented which was clearly the indicated process when we announced
the prizes.

it's been updated. a second email was sent. they addressed the issue
on twitter too. there are two sets of prizes. there will be a draw and
a contest.
