Greetings all -

Here is information about the upcoming storm you’ll need to know. If at all possible, move your cars off the streets so plowing can be efficiently done (and to avoid having your car hit by skidding vehicles). Check in on neighbors and remind those who may need it about warming centers and shelters.

Please stay safe and warm,

Sarah

Winter Storm Benjamin Information

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for our region beginning at 3 a.m. on Sunday, January 25th with a projected snowfall of about 17 inches and bitterly cold temperatures.

Citywide Parking Ban

To help ensure that snowplows can quickly and efficiently clear city streets, a citywide parking ban will go into effect on Saturday, January 23rd at 10 p.m. until further notice.

On all posted snow emergency routes and in the downtown area, there will be no parking on both sides of the street. There is also no parking within 25 feet of a fire hydrant, intersection or bus stop.

In residential areas, there will be no parking on the odd-numbered side of the streets.

If you forgot to move your car and think it was towed, call the New Haven Police Department's non-emergency line at 203-946-6316.

Parking Options During the Storm

There are many options for residents in need of an off-street parking during the parking ban, click here to view a list of public school and Yale lots that will be available for free as well as parking garages at a flat rate of $3 per day. Patrons of downtown businesses are encouraged to use the downtown garages during the storm.

Warming Centers

For individuals who might need a warm and safe place to stay, our list of warming centers can be found on the city's website or by calling 2-1-1.

Updates

For storm updates, call the City’s snow line at 203-946-7669 and consider signing up for the City of New Haven’s Emergency Notification System

Finally, please stay off the roads if you can, please shovel your sidewalks so there is a path at least 3 feet wide to ensure wheelchair and stroller access, and please check on your family, friends and neighbors who might need a helping hand. Please call 9-1-1- for any life-threatening emergencies.

Thanks for your cooperation, stay safe, and enjoy the snow!
