The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for our area, forecasting high temperatures and humidity for the next several days. To help residents stay safe and cool, the City of New Haven has issued an extreme heat alert and activated our extreme heat protocols, effective today and continuing through the weekend.
Extreme heat can result in serious health-related issues and illnesses – such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke – especially among at-risk populations such as young children, the elderly, and people with underlying medical conditions. Please check on your family, friends, and neighbors regularly and call
9-1-1 for any heat-related emergency.
Here’s a few helpful tips to help beat the heat: Stay hydrated – drink more water than usual and plenty of fluids. Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing. Keep your body temperature cool by staying in air-conditioned spaces, using fans, and taking cold showers or baths. Limit your time outdoors, avoid direct sunlight, and refrain from strenuous activities.
Also, city senior centers and libraries have been activated to serve as Cooling Centers for residents, and splash pads at city parks will also be operational. For a full list of these locations, you can go to the city’s website at newhavenct.gov where you can also find the latest updates.
