Winter Storm Benjamin Update

Thank you for your patience as City of New Haven crews, led by Public Works, labored around the clock to clear approximately 13 inches of snow that fell during the storm. Special thanks to the Town Green Special Services District, Yale University Properties, Chapel West Special Services District, the New Haven Parking Authority, and the Economic Development Corporation for all their contributions to the cleanup effort and assistance helping stranded travelers.

Parking Bans

The Residential Parking Ban will end at 6 p.m. today, January 26th, except for 11 extremely narrow streets that are still being cleared. These 11 streets are listed here on the City’s website and will also be noted on-street signage alerting residents to the continued ban.

Please note that the Downtown Parking Ban remains in effect until 5 a.m., Tuesday, January 27th. Parking enforcement, towing, and snow removal operations will continue overnight in Downtown New Haven with the goal of opening up all travel lanes.

New Haven Public Schools will reopen tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27, so if you parked there during the storm, please remove your vehicles by 8 p.m. today so that crews can clear snow from school lots overnight.

Yale parking lots will remain available until 12 noon tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27th.  New Haven Parking Authority discounts will remain available until 12 noon on Wednesday, January 28th

If you forgot to move your car and think it was towed from a City street, you can locate your car by searching for your plate number here. If your car was towed from private property, please call the New Haven Police Department non-emergency line at 203-946-6316 to locate your vehicle.

Sidewalks and Snow Piles

Please be mindful that large snow piles may impact visibility on roadways and impede access to some parking spaces.

As a reminder, sidewalks must be cleared within 24 hours of the storm so that pedestrians can travel safely.
