Dear Neighbors,

I am sharing updates about the Wooster Square Traffic Calming and Public Space Enhancement Project as well as a brief report on today's Compstat Year-end Review Meeting.

Wooster Square Traffic Calming and Public Space Enhancement Project
The Historic Wooster Square Association (HWSA) announced this week that the State Bond Commission voted to approve State funds for the Wooster Square Traffic Calming and Public Space Enhancements Project! This is a unique public-private community partnership with promise for exciting public safety changes in our community - for pedestrians, cyclists, automobiles - and even pizza eaters on Wooster Street! This Project began back in 2018 when the Wooster Square Watch worked with then Alder, Aaron Greenberg, to establish a community petition asking for traffic calming on Chapel Street, particularly by DePalma Court. By 2020 as our traffic calming needs increased, the state legislature assigned $500K of ARPA funds to the HWSA for Traffic Calming and Public Space Enhancements - where I was then by chance a leader on that Board. The City agreed to accept the contract on the Association's behalf, and it's taken 4 years for this Project to come to fruition, with important support of our current Alder Ellen Cupo as well! Take a look at the attached announcement! Should you have questions, contact pres...@historicwoostersquare.org (that just happens to be me now too).

NHPD Compstat Yearly Review
This morning I attended the annual Compstat Review of the previous year. This special meeting has evolved to include accomplishments, challenges and goals for the coming year for the Department and the Districts. I commented during the District 1 discussion about our Traffic Calming Project as well as the concerns about drag racing and noise on Water Street where traffic calming is needed, and the partnership in working with our District Manager on recurring crimes of opportunity we face in Wooster Square. I agreed to meet with Lt. Guliuzza for a walk through and update of our unique concerns. Stay tuned for opportunities to meet with him and a new beat officer assigned to our neighborhood.

Stay safe and warm everyone ❄️⛄❄️
