Greetings All:

We are one week and one day away from the 🌸 52nd Annual Wooster Square Cherry Blossom Festival 🌸
Hopefully, you've seen the posters around the neighborhood and the blossoms beginning to pop around the Park 🌸 The Wooster Square Blossom Blogger predicts delightful poppage by the Festival on Sunday April 19 from 12noon to 4:30pm! Here are a couple of announcements related to the Festival's activities this week as well as other news:

No Parking and No Traffic ⛔ NEXT Sunday - April 19 ⛔ 8am-5pm
You'll notice signs going up this week-end as a reminder that on the day of the Cherry Blossom Festival there will be no parking, towing and no traffic on the streets immediately around the Park and no traffic on surrounding key streets to accommodate the placement of a wonderful array of Food Trucks this year, and manage traffic from the thousands of visitors to the Festival. Here are those details and an attached flyer you can review and print out. As a reminder, you can park in Conte West School at 511 Chapel Street before it fills up - if you need a parking space that day.
  • No parking, no traffic, all vehicles will be towed: Academy Street, Greene Street (between #265 to 337), Hughes Place, & Wooster Place
  • No traffic: St. John Street, St. John Extension, Chestnut Street (between St. John and Greene), and Jefferson St. (between Grand and St. John)
Stencil Painting this Morning 🌸
If you are taking a walk mid-morning today, say hello to volunteers who will be painting cherry blossom stencils in the center of the Park! This annual activity brings the joy of the blossoms which last for weeks into the spring as a reminder of nature's beauties!

Get Ready: New Tree Watering Team Needed 🌸🌳🌸
You may have seen our New Haven Parks Department busy with care of our many trees - removing a few dead trees, cleaning up the Park after the long, cold and snowy winter, and beginning to plant new cherry trees (which have a life of 40 years and need routine replacement). The Historic Wooster Square Association's Tree Watering Team is looking for new members! A signup campaign will be starting shortly so, get ready to volunteer and be on the lookout for further e-news blasts!

BACA-West Art Opening at 360 State Street Lobby - Sunday (tomorrow) April 12 - 2-4pm
Molly McDonald will be at the Opening of her show tomorrow afternoon at the Branford Arts & Cultural Alliance-West (BACA-West) Artist in Exhibition Show on display through June 2026 in the lobby of the 360 State Apartment Building on the corner of State and Chapel Street. This is always a lovely way to meet neighbors and experience new art in our neighborhood. Please see the attached flyer below.

Public Safety
There was one public safety issue in Wooster Square reported in the March 29th Compstat Report - on March 22 there was a Burglary-Breaking & Entering at 527 Chapel Street at 11:34pm. The next Downtown Wooster Square Community Management Team Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday evening April 21 at 6pm at City Hall. More info will be coming soon.

Board of Zoning Appeals Needs 2 New Members
The Board of Alders has the responsibility per the charter to appoint two resident electors that are not alders or on any other city board or commission as members and an alternate member of the Board of Zoning Appeals. Currently two of these positions need to be filled. I recently learned about these openings, and while there was a deadline of April 9 to let the Board of Alder President know of any recommendations, our Alder has been out of town until this Monday. My suggestion is that if anyone has an interest in serving on the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA), please let Alder Mandy Martinelli know ASAP. She can be reached at:  wa...@newhavenct.gov 203.676.2186

Have a lovely spring week-end, everyone,

Sarah
