Greetings on this soggy Friday afternoon,

Here are a few community announcements:

Public Safety
At yesterday's Community Policing/Compstat Meeting, I learned that there were three motor vehicle thefts in the Wooster Square neighborhood during the period between April 21-May 4, 2025 - on 4/26 at 504 Chapel Street at 12:37pm; on 4/30 at 87 Union Street at 12:25am. and on 5/4 at 341 Saint John Street at 8:36pm.  Motor vehicle thefts are up in many districts across the City - reportedly people walk through neighborhoods and try car doors to see if they are unlocked. I share yet another reminder to please remember to lock your cars and move valuables out of sight.

Dear Resident,

Did you know you live or own property in the beautiful Wooster Square Local Historic District, which is one of only three Local Historic Districts in New Haven? Living in a Local Historic District has benefits and requires compliance with some rules and regulations.

You’re invited to an educational workshop at:

Conte West Hills Magnet School on Thursday, May 29th at 6pm.

This workshop will cover topics like:

-What is a Local Historic District?
-What exterior changes to your property require approval from the Historic District Commission and how to apply.
-Resources available to Historic District residents including tax credits and technical assistance.

There will also be a Q&A session with local historians and City of New Haven planning staff.

We hope that you can join in person! A light dinner will be provided. Materials from the meeting and the presentation will be posted to the Historic District Commission website at tinyurl.com/HDCwebsite.

Sincerely,

Fatima Cecunjanin and Laura Brown

New Haven City Plan Department

Enjoy this lovely spring day 🌞🪻🌞
