Dear Neighbors,

Below please find an announcement of this year's Jane's Walk in Wooster Square - it is sponsored by the New Haven Preservation Trust, Preservation CT, the New Haven Museum and our own Historic Wooster Square Association. While the registration is FULL at this point, there is a waiting list which you can sign up for tol be notified if there are cancellations!  We are tracking interest and might be able to hold another one in the near future.

Last week at Compstat, I learned of one public safety concern in Wooster Square - on 3.25.25 at 11:21am, there was a motor vehicle theft at 595 Chapel Street.

Now that the weather is trying to get warmer, please remember to keep valuables out of sight in your cars or the open windows of your homes - and please remember to lock your cars and doors/windows when you leave home.

We have a new beat officer in Wooster Square whose name is Officer John Barbetti!  If you see him around the neighborhood, please welcome him and say hello! We hope to have a chance for neighbors to meet him and Lt Guliuzza soon.

The blossoms are beginning to bloom 🌸 Once the weather gets warmer again, Wooster Square will be bustling with blossoms! Please enjoy them and remember, do not climb trees, shake the fragile branches or pick the beautiful blossoms! This week signage will be placed in the Wooster Square Park reminding visitors to respect our trees.

Enjoy the holiday weekend,

Sarah

WALKING TOUR

Jane’s Walk — Wooster Street: More Than Great Apizza!

Saturday, May 3

10:00 a.m.

How much do you really know about New Haven’s famous Wooster Street? Most locals know that it’s home to the world‘s best pizza. But did you know it was also the site for Eli Whitney‘s first factory built to produce his famous cotton gin? Did you know that General Wooster, for whom the street is named, was a Revolutionary War hero and that his home existed here until the 1930s? Did you know that the harbor used to lie just one block away and that this area first served as the city’s thriving mercantile district, home to sea captains, merchants, politicians and other wealthy individuals, long before the famous Square was ever created?

Come along as we stroll the street and explore what’s there now and what no longer exists. Share your memories, thoughts, and questions in this community walking tour and dialogue.

Hosted by: Barbara Lamb and Kyle Driebeek
