Public Safety
A package was taken from the porch of 37/39 Wooster Place at the corner of Greene Street on Sunday 9.29.24 at 3:12pm. The owner shared the video attached below in case this jives with any trends others may know about. Please let me know and I can share with the owner.

Spotted Lantern Fly is in Connecticut.
A neighbor shared on Monday, 9.30.24 that he killed a spotted lantern fly in Wooster Square. Please know that this insect is a danger to trees and crops, similar to the impact on elm trees on the Green and elsewhere which died from Dutch Elm Disease. In fact, the mighty Chestnut once ruled the New England forests, and it is virtually gone now too.  You may also see Beeches dying and we have lost almost all Ash trees to the Emerald Ash Borer.

The State of CT is trying to stop or at least slow the Spotted Lantern Fly.  You can help.  See https://portal.ct.gov/deep/forestry/forest-protection/spotted-lanternfly#WhereFirst, and most important – if you think you have observed spotted lanternflies, do not attempt to move any wood or other potentially infested material from the site. Instead, you should:
  • Report potential sightings of this invasive pest. If you suspect you have found a SLF, snap a picture of it and fill out this SLF Reporting Form.
  • Kill any spotted lanternflies you find immediately.
  • Follow these tips for dealing with spotted lanternflies.
  • Please check your vehicles for stowaways! Inspect your vehicles, trailers, and other items for SLF adults and egg masses when travelling through areas with known or suspected SLF populations. These insects are known to hitch a ride on vehicles and even clothing.
Wanted: New Tree Watering Team
In the coming months a new "forest" type tree will be planted in Wooster Square Park as well as new cherry trees to replace those that will be removed as they near their 40 year lifespan. Once a new fountain is placed in Wooster Square Park, a neighborhood "tree watering team" will be needed to make sure the new trees are regularly watered for the first three years. Please let me know if you would be interested in sharing this rewarding task with others in our neighborhood.

Hoping to see you at the movies on Friday evening! 🎬📽️🍿
