Dear All,
Pursuant to our meeting this evening, I did a little investigation and found out the following.
a) The paper given out by JWN via Dep. Commissioner Puan Norlizaiha was entitled, "Pertandingan Merekabentuk Bangunan Pusat Interpretasi di Tapak Warisan Dunia Lembah Lenggong"...sic., with some corrections...and could be more. b) Mariana's compilation paper this morning calls it "Lenggong Valley Interpretation Centre or Interpretive Centre Design Competition", either way is or both are correct.
"An interpretation centre, or interpretive centre, is an institution for dissemination of knowledge of natural or cultural heritage. Interpretation centres are a kind of new-style museum, often associated with visitor centres or ecomuseums, and located in connection to cultural, historic or natural
sites.[1] Interpretation centres use different means of communication to enhance the understanding of heritage. To aid and stimulate the discovery process and the visitor's intellectual and emotional connection to heritage, the main presentation strategy tends to be user-friendly and interactive, and often use scenographic exhibitions and multimedia programs. Many
interpretation centres have temporary exhibitions related to a specific aspect of the site.
An interpretation centre can be a viable solution for effective communication of heritage information in municipalities and rural areas where resources may not exist to establish a traditional, full-scale museum, and where heritage can be an important factor for tourism development. Unlike traditional museums, interpretation centres do not usually aim to collect, conserve and study objects; they are specialized institutions for communicating the significance and meaning of heritage. They work to educate and raise awareness. Non-core jobs as conservation and research are services usually done by specialized, external entities."
interpretive centre
n
(at a place of interest, such as a country park, historical site, etc.) a building or group of buildings that provides interpretation of the place of interest through a variety of media, such as video displays and exhibitions of material, and, often, includes facilities such as refreshment rooms and gift shops Also called visitor centre
Apart from the Banteay Srei's images that Norhayati has,
that won the World Building of the Year 2009 Award
More images on this Interpretation or Interpretive Centre plus others at google images,
OUV or "Kepentingan Nilai Sejagat" must be reflected into the design.
Hence the title for this JWN-PAM Lenggong Valley Architectural Design Competition shall be,
"Pertandingan Merekabentuk Pusat Interpretasi Warisan Dunia Arkeoloji Lembah Lenggong" or "Lenggong Valley Archeological World Heritage Interpretation Centre Design Competition"
Now...now, isn't that a mouthful...and Najib Ariffin will comes forth to help...hehe.
