Thanks GrandPa.
Your family is like an extension of my family too, since you guys came back
from Kuala Lumpur to finish primary schooling at Kuantan in 1963.
And, we were at Sultan Abdullah School, together, before joining MCKK in 1965.
Shahlan Yob too, was also with us in Standard 5,1963.
But he went to MCKK under the Selangor's quota.
I remember your family since Standard 1, 1959, when attending the Malay school,
Sekolah Teruntum, for morning sessions where both my parents were teachers.
That same year I attended 2 schools, and at Sultan Abdullah School, for the
English schooling in the afternoon sessions.
Later, my late father left for his Advanced Teachers Training in India.
I too, transfer "Dad's tricks" to my youngest brother, who was at V.I and the latter pursued
to continue Mathematics for his study in US over 10 years until PhD and still lectures at USM.)
I had to discontinue the Malay schooling after Standard 1 because my Standards 2 and 3
at SAS were in morning sessions.
My Standard 4 was in the afternoon, and it was then that I learnt "basic cooking" looking
after the younger siblings, leaving to school at most half an hour, before my mother
returned home.
[Actually, it was around this time too that I learnt to handle bicycles, and basic Carpentry,
I was a good boy then, favourite to teachers proud of my responsibilities that words spread
about that made my late father presented me a pair of Black Leather shoes that would fit
until Form One at MCKK!...hehe. Because there was a time in previous term Standard 3,
I refused to go to school after being laid off from class caught by the Chicken Pox infection.
Anyway GramP, it was 1963 that our families spent many days together at your parent's
house, as we kids used to stay put there for hours on end. Neither knowing when to go
home nor getting changed. The parents were busy with their agendas as the National General
Elections were approaching. We kids slept at your house very so often. My dad had owned
a
Ford Prefect by then, his first car, and I was his assistant
at changing tyres for rotations
!!
Then came 1964, when my late father took his unpaid leave from teaching to try out a new
posting as Political Secretary to your late father. He left us under my mother's care for a
year, whilst he stayed in your parent's house at the Ministers Quarters of Jalan Kia Peng, KL.
Meanwhile, my mother too, had our youngest sibling born that same year!
I remember visiting my father then, after our MCKK Entrance Exams, in your parent's
government car, a
Chevrolet Impala. I was seated in front next to your uncle driving it, and my
mum with her little baby and your mum at the back. I vomited many times along that old Pahang
Trunk road, swaying my body left to right without being able to see over the high dashboard,
to read the curvy regular bends ahead for little me! Seatbelts were unheard of in those days.
About this time too, my late father had upgraded his car to a
Ford Cortina.
It was in that last car that took the 3 of us; me, you and Ad, to MCKK, accompanied by my
late father and your late uncle at the wheel, in 1965.
We naturally are brothers having gone through the process together...HAHA....
Of course there more stories yet to be told...
See these faces at end Form 1, 1965, compiled from the Prep School group photo.
------
Yes, Ad and Deb, came to my Mum's Doa Selamat, with daughter, cucu et al.
He took many photos.
Kak Ailin Ton Dato' Ishak too, also came with her mother Mak Chik Nab.
I had to call Kak Ailin to come along, because her parents too, are my parents friends, same as yours.
We happened to meet when our Dato' Hajeedar Majid was launching his book at UKM a while back.
Many that came however were relatives from both sides of the families,
including friends of both my brothers and sisters.
Anyway, to cut story short, I am still trying to retrieve those photos that Ad took
during the event on Saturday.
I hope Ad can give me the link again so that I can assess them too.
I don't know why I am not receiving them, after Ad messaged me otherwise.
My sister had them but she had yet to share with me.
Thanks GrandPa for those sweet wishes for my mum,
I will inform her.
