Hi Guys,
Enclosed herewith is a Federation of Malaya, Merdeka Celebration 1957
Map of Capital City Kuala Lumpur in the run-up indicating locations and
venues, if you can still remember each particular events, 59 years ago.

The Tunku Residence as our first PM then, is marked "C"on the map,
near the 5 pronged/pointed/branch roads, crossings of Swettenham
and Maxwell roads, and the start or end of Brockman Road.

Please note here, that Maxwell Road starts at "Seven Dials", near
Lake Garden, and ends aligned and opposite Circular Road at  the
Western side of the intersection with Ipoh Road.
Located not far from this intersection is also Maxwell School, not shown
on the map, but both were named after Sir William George Maxwell.

Maxwell School was established in 1917, as a feeder Primary School
to Victoria Institution.
It later opened the doors as Secondary School on 1 June 1922 , with
the first Headmaster from 1922 - 1925 being Montague B. Brockwell.

(The top of Maxwell Hill at present had been placed a Water Reservoir.)
This hill too, I believe used to be the  Rifle Range for the FMS Volunteer Rifles,
if I'm not mistaken, and will do further investigation if needed.

Maxwell Road, as shown on the map, also has Railway Track crossing,
now a bridge, and a bridge over the Gombak River, to link it to Ipoh Road,
near The Mall and Pan Pacific Hotel.

Between Seven Dials and the 5 pronged junction, near the PM Residence,
along Maxwell Road, there is a short road leading uphill to location "O",
which was the Federal Council Chamber building, or where the
Federal Legislative Council held its offices.

When the first post-independence general election were held in 1959
and before the now current or new Parliament House was built and
relocation in September 1963, the first Parliament of Malaya elected,
held their proceedings at this old building. It used to be the former
headquarters of the Federated Malay States Volunteer Force.
And, now it houses the Public Work Department, PWD, Architectural Design
Offices, if I am not mistaken....(again).
We should work on getting the building its National Heritage status!

Kindly Note:
The enclosed edited map (attached) belongs to Ilia Farah Rosli, and
not for public circulation nor distribution.
It was originally issued by the Federal Military in preparations for their
personnel assignments and duties allocations during the run-up for
the Merdeka Celebration 1957 events
.

*If you are confused, I am confused too!
Cheers,
Have a nice day

Good morning everyone...

His name was Fleming, and he was a poor Scottish farmer. One day, while trying to make a living for his family, he heard a cry for help coming from a nearby boy. He dropped his tools and ran to the boy.

There, mired to his waist in black muck, was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling to free himself. Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what could have been a slow and terrifying death

The next day, a fancy carriage pulled up to the Scotsman's sparse surroundings. An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved.

'I want to repay you,' said the nobleman. 'You saved my son's life.'

'No, I can't accept payment for what I did,' the Scottish farmer replied waving off the offer. At that moment, the farmer's own son came to the door of the family hovel.

'Is that your son?' the nobleman asked.

'Yes,' the farmer replied proudly.

'I'll make you a deal. Let me provide him with the level of education my own son will enjoy. If the lad is anything like his father, he'll no doubt grow to be a man we both will be proud of.' And that he did.

Farmer Fleming's son attended the very best schools and in time, graduated from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London, and went on to become known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of Penicillin.

Years afterward, the same nobleman's son who was saved from the bog was stricken with pneumonia.

What saved his life this time? Penicillin.

The name of the nobleman? Lord Randolph Churchill .. His son's name?

Sir Winston Churchill.

Next year we celebrate 60 Years of independence - Diamond Jubilee.

So we at World Youth Jazz Festival will try to do something special away from our normal festival format for the last 5 years, the 5th year having just ended, Alhamdulillah, on a higher note.

Thanks Li WooeR for the informative article. TQ‎.

Attached is an article from a Malay Main Stream Media and my comments thereof:
