Several nice news bits to share about Woodmont Park!
1) Thanks to the Pack 18 Cub Scouts - Bear Den for performing a service day at Woodmont Park recently. They installed a new Little Free Library box (the previous one had water issues, sadly), mulched several trees, installed tree protectors around the trunks of many of the trees to guard against string trimmer damage, picked up litter, and fertilized some evergreens. Thank you to Hayes Bryant, Dr. Kyra Richter and the boys for bringing such an enthusiastic group of volunteers to the park!
2) Shade Pavilion Update - our lumber has been ordered. It will take perhaps another 4-5 weeks to arrive. In which time, we will be meeting onsite to plan for closing the area around the construction zone. The building permit has been obtained. The contract has been finalized and signed with builder.
3) Metro Parks and Recreation is engaging in a master planning process. Public meetings are coming up. Please take a few moments to take the survey or fill out on online comment (links highlighted just below). Your input is vital to ensure that our parks system flourishes in the decades to come! We have been very very lucky in our corner of town, and Woodmont Park, and your involvement has been essential.
The first round of public meetings will be held Wednesday, June 8, and Thursday, June 9.
Residents are encouraged to attend the following meetings:
Wednesday, June 8
- 6 p.m.: Southeast Community Center, 5260 Hickory Hollow Parkway, Suite 202
Thursday, June 9
- Noon: Nashville Downtown Library, 615 Church Street – Mayor Megan Barry to attend
- 6 p.m.: Old Hickory Community Center, 1050 Donelson Drive
- 6 p.m.: McCabe Community Center, 101 46th Avenue North
Future public meetings will be held at other locations throughout the county. All meetings in each phase will have the same format. People can attend a meeting at any location and offer comments
In this first phase, Metro Parks will educate residents about the current state of the system and the department and engage them in a broad discussion of the changes and improvements they would like to see in their parks and greenways system in the future. Attendees will also have the opportunity to share feedback in breakout sessions.
