Dear Neighbors,
Please support Friends of Woodmont Park in the 2022 Big Payback, May 4th. We are raising funds for a new Woodmont Park project (see below ) and need your help. Any amount helps, and will be matched in the Big Payback.
Woodmont Park Basketball Court Improvement
We seek to raise $50,000 to improve the basketball court at Woodmont Park. The current surface has a severe slope from one goal to the other, making full court play very difficult. The surface is old, uneven and rough, with many cracks in the asphalt. The improvement project will do the following:
· Level the surface - this will include excavation and removal of the current surface and replace with a new, smooth asphalt surface; we would not reuse the old surface
· Enlarge the surface from 60 feet to 75 foot length east to west
· Reorient the court from north-south to east-west.
· The additional length of the court would go to the west.
· If feasible, we would attempt to move the court westward towards the existing tennis court to provide more space on the east boundary of the park for other uses that are in the Master Plan. We will work with the excavation contractor to determine if this is financially feasible.
· Add two new goals for the full court space
· Add shorter goals on the side for children play
· Paint stripes to allow other game uses, including pickle ball
This will make the court much better for basketball and will accommodate multiple uses by kids of all ages. We have received a positive response from Metro Parks for our initial proposal and we expect final approval at their meeting on May 3. Our fundraising goal is based on an estimate we received for excavation and resurfacing. We are asking for help in any amount. Every contribution helps.
