DrGopukumar Kumarpillai worked 4 years of post doctoral research training in neuropsychology at The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) and 3 years post doctoral research / clinical (Neuropsychology) work at Foothills Hospital, Department of Neurosciences, Calgary University, Canada. He has over 15 years of clinical/research experience in the psychological field, and 10 years of organization management experience.

He has made more than 70 of professional presentations locally, nationally and internationally. Under his guidance 1 student has been awarded PhD. and is guiding many Ph.D/M.Phli., research work. He served as an external examiner for M.Phil/Ph.D. degree. His co-authored NIMHANS Neuropsychology Battery (1st edition in 2004 and now in its 2nd Edition - printing) is the only Neuropsychology battery widely used in India. He received International travel grant for his research work on cognitive changes and HIV1 & 2 (Italy and Canada); and cognitive impairment & Epilepsy (China). His research interests are in Neuropsychology, behavior technology, counseling psychology, educational psychology, sports psychology, cognitive impairment & retraining, alternative therapy and stress management.

Department of neuropsychology at the CIIMS hospital, has a well equiped Neuropsychological assessment, counselling and rehabilitation unit. The unit offers assessment and rehabilitation services for Neurological, Neurosurgical and Psychiatric Conditions.

Neuropsychological Assessment and Neuropsychological remediation are the twin branches of clinical neuropsychology.The unit offers neurodevelopmental assessments, neuropsychological testing. NIMHANS neuropsychology battery, neuropsychology battery for children, neuropsychological bettery for intractable epilepsy is frequently used.

We also conduct aptitude testing, IQ testing, personality assessments. We provide counseling and a special training module is provided for mentally retarded children.Cognitve retraining retraining is given to patients with brain damage to improve their functioning.Hospital and home based retraining aprroaches are used.Detail assessment of conditions like alzeimers, dementia, epilepsy, stroke, depression, ocd, attention deficits and hyperactivity disorder, conduct disorders is being conducted. Behaviour therapy for patients with depression, anxiety disorders is done.
