I don't know why, but the company that bought Kwick Kleen cannot process any of my orders on time and get it shipped....The last 3 orders, were delayed for unknown reasons and it took nearly a week and a half to receive it.   They are only  180 miles west of Kwick Kleen?  WTH?  IS anyone else having this trouble?  $470 for a 55 gallon of 1826.....ready to try others.    I called the other day just to confirm my order the previous day and they couldn't find it and had to call me back....It's now Monday and I called to check the status and they said it should....key word is should....go out today....but they would call me back to confirm....still waiting for that call.  I ordered it Thursday morning and they said they have it in stock and could ship immediately.    Any suggestions or thoughts on where else I may try?  Has anyone had any success with Benco?   I type this as I check my mail and it says they are now producing Kwick Dry Poly....I am wondering if I should order now to have it in time for Spring!  Ughhhhhhhh.

When I had my shop in Denver, I used to order stripping supplies from Paint & Lacquer. Much has changed in 15 years though.

I get my 1826 from Chemisphere out of St. Louis. I get the 30 gallon drums. I think they are tied in with Flo-Strip, however.

They have always shipped right away. I've never had a problem. I'm in Nebraska.

For what its worth, we ordered stripper from flo strip, and received good service the first time.  The second time, a few months ago, I tried to reorder 3 or 4 drums, because their price was right.  After 10 days the stripper was not delivered.  I was told then, that there was a back order, but it could take another week, before shipping.  I cancelled that order and ordered a drum from Benco.  We received the order within a week.  We think it is quicker than Flo Strip.  We were not completely out of stripper when we received the Benco, it was added to the existing flo strip, so it was somewhat diluted.   I will be able to have a better idea of its strength, after we add more, probably next month and will post our opinion then.

We tried Benco and were not pleased with the product.  Flo Strip is a bit difficult to work with, but I certainly get it quicker than the old Kwick Kleen method of factory truck, only once a month.
I just try to order about 2 weeks before I need it.

I used to use KwilkKleen and now use Benco.  For the most part they have gotten me product in a timely manor.  I order the 1700 stripper, that is semi paste, which I use specifically for stripping onsite project.  It works well and closely resemble the stripper KwikKleen used to send me .  You all can thank me for getting the production of the quick dry poly, since I am the original customer that began using it for Doors etc, way back probably 15 plus years ago.  I talked Benco into producing it again and have been closely in communication with them, since they decided to begin making it again. It’s been a struggle, but they finally agreed and found a place to produce it .  Benco has been fairly reliable, but you have to stay on them, ask for tracking , call if it isn’t there on time etc.  I heard a lot of these problems will get better since they will soon begin warehousing on site with a bigger facility.   They went through a few growing pains, but I have a pretty good guy I work with there, so we communicate well.    What is the difference in characteristics of the 1826 stripper/  Is it liquid or paste?

And so I got picked on when I bought out just about everything Dave made.... this is why..... I've still got another year's worth of stripper and about the same in stains/glazes.  Was hoping that things would settle down (uhhh...that would be pricing, too) but it's sure not looking very good.  We had our own restoration supply company back in the late 80s that just sold statewide here.  Looks like I'll have to dust off the old recipe books and probably do direct importing and blending again for ourselves.  And now one of my last favorite companies, Hood Finishing, has just been sold as well.  They are our finish suppliers for Magna-Shield which we've used for many years so....It doesn't look like the new owners are changing much with them but we could just be going down this same route again.... huge sigh!!!!!

I need to post a correction   It isn’t Benco that is making the quick dry its CHemisphere and Express Chem.  They are making the quick dry and also that is where I get my stripper from.  I still have Benco as a contact and just confused myself on who did what.  Sorry   If I confused anything.    I used to get stripper from Benco, but found it to me not of my liking for my specific process, so i get the 1700 from Express Chem

Yeah, I still curse your name....I called in a few days after you did....Stripper all gone!  You #%^#$!!!!  I still have a ton of glazes ( does Mohawk make any similar?)   1 drum with shipping is $470 to my door (when EVER I get it)....I would be curious about your custom blending....I only use 4-6 drums a year, so not sure if it is worth it..Benco is even more money and their shipping is crazy if you don't make their monthly truck...sigh......

You might try Hood's glazes.  www.hoodfinishing.com  They are more like Kwick Kleens than what Mohawk carries.  Also, Masters Magic (the Gemini Company I think) glazes are much like Dave's.  As for solvent blending I don't have any industrial liability insurance any more do I couldn't make it and sell it.  I'd also have to buy the active MC ingredient in at least 1 ton minimums, so I'll have to do some math on that as well.

We purchase our 55 gallon drums of stripper from BSI or Benco Sales and have for 35 years. They have a great product and would highly recommend them. www.bencosales.com

Darrel, would you sell me a quart of the mahogany glaze if you still have one?  I thought I had another to match to and I don't....If you do, I can call your shop to make arrangements.

Jafo,
I only stocked two of Dave's glazes which were Van Dyke Brown and Burnt Umber.  From those base colors I always added some universal tint colors to make my own variations of mahoganies, cherry, etc.  Honestly, I don't even use that much in glazes anymore.  I had started using a double action air brush about 20 years ago and combined that with tints in my regular gun so my lower coats achieved the effects that I wanted.

OK, thanks for the info...Thought I would try you first....I only use the air brush once in a blue moon....trying to blend something in....not much practice with that technique....I still have all of the old glazes except mahogany...I thought I had a case left but it was just the box storing something else...ugh....I used the mahogany on an old project that they just brought me more stuff to match, so I was trying to match...where are you getting your universal tints from?  Mohawk?

I last got my Universal Tint Colors from Hood Finishing.  I had previously been using some that had just come from my local Sherwin Williams paint centers that some of the local architectural finishers were using.  Hood's are much better in my opinion and the shelf life is quite good.  Here is the pdf. page link right out of their current catalog.....http://www.hoodfinishing.com/files/Stains_and_Colorants.pdf     Hit that with your pdf reader, then I would just call them if you want to order.  My last order was in by 4 in the afternoon and they had it to me by the end of the next day!  The new owners of the company seem to know what they are doing.

UPDATE:

Flo strip has improved its shipping...I guess they expanded their warehouse and no longer mixes an order when they have a bunch and keep some in stock...That is a huge improvement...I ordered Friday and it arrived on Monday....

Question:   I have been ordering their 1826 (alkaline) and decided to order that and try their 1827 ( kwick Kleen 2007 replacement - acidic).....Is anyone else using it?   What are your thoughts?   My first impression is it is NOT a replacement and same formula....I am going to try it again and mix it longer and thinking that was the problem, but it is evaporating WAY quicker and it is also leaving a residue....whitish color.....it strips quick, but trying it the first time and not pleased...Going to do some sanding tomorrow, so I hope I don't have to restrip it again....I would be curious to hear anyone else using the 1827 (2007) and what your thoughts are...
