I write to share a few more resources on crime and preventing crime.

I am just sharing a few resources. I am not able to include all the updates I would like in this e mail.

This is not comprehensive. I started out two hours ago just hoping to share the stopcrime and crimemapping links, Then I remembered a few things and have spent far more time than I have right now trying to get this out.

Lee's Organizing Suggestion: Pick one thing

Everybody pick one subject or issue that interests you. You read up on it. You become the neighborhood  "expert" on that issue. Maybe we form a committee. Maybe we forward literature to you. Others can work with you and also be experts on that issue.   There is way too much for any one of us to do.  There are so many of us, that we could easily solve this problem, or just about any other problem, if each of us took just one thing, one task, one subject matter, or contact with one group. 

Think about it.  Pick one thing.

Keeping up to date on crimes occurring in the neighborhood:

          http://www.crimemapping.com/     I receive daily reports from this website. It allows you to go up to 2 miles from a particular location.  You can sign up for daily reports. Free.  Note: I have not yet seen a report of the January 21 neighborhood murder here. It reports more crimes than the other website below. 

          http://www.spotcrime.com    I receive regular reports from this website as well.  It seems to report fewer crimes. It reported the January 21 murder on Avery that was missed by the other site.  It allows reports of crimes up to a five mile radius. Free.

I use the address 4400 Avery since it is more centrally located to the neighborhood than my own address.

You can sign up for reports. 

 

Streetlights and walking in the neighborhood. 

 Lisa Young and others have taken a lot of initiative in taking back the streets. Walking in the neighborhood, with or without dogs, is becoming more popular.

Streetlighting

Several have expressed interest in additional streetlighting. I attach an article on the subject from the Campbell Collaboration.

If anyone is interested in helping out with the street lighting project come to this Thursdays WCDC meeting at Perry Funeral home starting @6PM. We've been working on this project for almost a year based on the WSU capstone report and we have received $830 in grant money for the project and a possible lighting donation is in the works.
