Item 1:  Americorps Forward

We are looking for a few interested Woodbridge residents to join us. Thanks! -Evan

Hello Woodbridge Residents!

Over the last few months, we at the AmeriCorps Urban Safety Project at Wayne State have conducted four bike watch rounds in the Midtown area. We are doing this to add additional eyes on the streets to help cut down on crime. Our efforts have been coupled with the inclusion of Wayne State Police, who lend us police radios to call in crimes in progress. We are very excited to announce that we are expanding our efforts to Woodbridge, and we are looking for volunteer help!

Our patrols are three hours long, with a break halfway through. Along with the bike patrol, we are also adding walking and car patrol to the efforts. We are looking to have four volunteers on bike (only if you have your own bike), one drive along with us in a car, and two to come along with myself on the walking patrol. If you are interested in joining us, please email me at evan....@gmail.com with your name, phone number, email and address. I will be in immediate contact with the first seven people to reply. Any questions or comments can be emailed to me, or you can call me at the number provided below.

Best,
Evan Ambrose

Greetings,

As some of you may have heard, we reached a milestone this week with our plans to build a disc golf course on Belle Isle in Detroit.  The park gave us written permission to begin installing baskets on the former ball golf course.  This means that by the end of this summer we may very well have an 18 hole course built.  Pat yourselves on the back.  There is absolutely no way that this would be happening without the hundreds of volunteers that have helped to keep this project moving forward over the last two years.

The initial construction costs will be roughly $10,000.  We have a number individuals and businesses that have pledged to sponsor individual holes, and this Sunday, May 5th, we have a unique opportunity to win a micro-grant worth nearly $1,000.

Detroit Soup is a community organization in Detroit that has been funding small projects like ours for over 2 years.  They have a great format.  They hold a monthly dinner in a beautiful building in Detroit's New Center area just off of I75.  For a $5 donation, everybody gets a dinner of soup, salad, and bread.  It's all prepared fresh with local ingredients.

While you eat, a few people will give a 3 minute proposal on what they think should be done with the funds collected at the door.  After you eat, you vote on your favorite proposal.  We're hoping that you can find the time to come out and support us as this will provide a significant portion of the money that we need.  We've presented twice before and came in second both times.  The first time we only lost by one vote.  Hopefully you can make it out.  Thanks again for all of your support thus far.

Cheers,

Chris
