Boston's Urban Forest Ash Tree Bicycle Tour Sunday, October 6 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Meet on the Boston Common by the Frog Pond Pavilion (Walk your bike in the Common!)
Ash trees are common urban street and park trees, but do you know what they look like and where they are? Come learn to identify these trees and see their bright yellow and purple fall foliage.
Ash trees are in the news because they are threatened by an invasive insect, the emerald ash borer, which has wiped out hundreds of millions of ash in the Midwest. The insect is spreading eastward, mainly through infested firewood. The emerald ash borer was found in Massachusetts last August and in New Hampshire in April.
Come learn about the emerald ash borer, how to identify the signs of infestation and learn what other cities are doing to manage their ash trees. Appreciate your ash tree canopy while it's here!
Bring your own bicycle, helmet, water, snack and camera. Registration required. Tour is limited to 15 people, so register soon. To register, email li...@bostonnatural.org or call 617-542-7696 ext 20.

Now that the preliminary is over, Boston Park Advocates are ramping up to keep parks in the discussion until the final elections in November and beyond. Save the date for TWO important events for Boston parks. |
Learn about the at-large city council candidates' ideas for budgeting, maintaining, and influencing improvements for Boston Parks on Tuesday, October 15th from 7:30 -9:00 p.m.. The event will be similar to our mayoral forum in August with candidates in the front of the room with a moderator asking prepared questions. Seven of eight candidates have confirmed. Also, keep Saturday, October 26th from 10am-Noon open for a tentative discussion with mayoral finalists on parks and open space. We are waiting for confirmation and will let you know as soon as we do! Each candidate will have an hour to present his ideas for parks, answer questions, and discuss issues with voters. These are two huge events for parks and a great step in the right direction for the "Next Boston". Please get the word out among your members and neighborhood colleagues. Let's fill the room again and show candidates how much parks count to voters in Boston! |
How you can help Boston Parks? |
- Attend both events on October 15th and 26th
- Forward this message to every voter and park user you know!
- Ask candidates about their plans for parks at other forums, debates, house parties, etc.
- Become an organizational sponsor of Boston Park Advocates
- Submit questions you would like to see asked
- "Like" us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter
**We are not supporting a candidate, we are supporting parks. The more people involved, the more parks count! |
