HONK! 2013   Dear Worcester Ice Cream Social Band   We’d like to warmly invite the Worcester Ice Cream Social Band to attend Somerville’s Eighth Annual HONK! Festival! – Columbus Day weekend, October 11-13, 2013. We are so excited to bring you to our town, to help us transform it with the sounds of brass and drums and booty-shaking, to reclaim the streets for horns, bikes, and feet, and to celebrate our movement’s march toward a more loving, just and sustainable world. The HONK! Festival brings together activist street bands from around the United States and beyond, and is hosted by our hometown community in Somerville and Cambridge, Massachusetts. Together, we transform Davis Square and other locations into a spontaneous spectacle of peoples’ music and dance, each band providing a “portable soundtrack for a temporary utopia,” to borrow a term from Brooklyn’s Hungry March Band. All music is outdoors, free and open to the public, and our big Sunday parade down famous Massachusetts Avenue into Harvard Square, “to reclaim the streets for horns, bikes, and feet,” and to celebrate our movement’s march toward a more loving, just and sustainable world.
