Hi all,

The first auditions for my show, Julie Cooper: Genesis Prayer, are tonight. I would love to have you come join us! Come bring a little something, or come read a little something I give you. It's going to be a really low-key and exciting audition process.

The show is going to be a collaboratively built abstract theater work that explores the transformation of a person into a persona and icon, the worship of that icon, and, of course, it's inevitable public downfall. These people include celebrities, fictional characters, historical figures, artists, and ourselves. To what degree do each of us create and worship our own self-icons?

What do you, Miley Cyrus, and Jesus Christ have in common? 

JULIE COOPER: GENESIS PRAYER will be an original theatrical work that explores persona, pop archetype, and icon worship in contemporary media, as well as our own lives. Through a collection of theatrical images and sequences, the performers will take the audience on a journey through the darker side of our contemporary popular culture.

 

The piece will be developed collaboratively by the cast and creative team, following our questions and revelations.

Mon. 1/27: 6-12 @ Loeb

Tues. 1/28: 6-9 @ Farkas

Fri. 1/31: 9-12 @ Farkas

 

For auditions, please prepare something that shares who you are as a person, artist, and performer. This could be a song, original music, a dance, a monologue, a story, or anything else. Have fun with it! Sides will also be available.
