Hello!

I hope you are enjoying the cooler weather as much as I am!

Here's an update of art events in which I'm participating:

1. This is the last week of my exhibit in the lobby at Whidbey Island Bank (York Street branch--corner of State St. and York). I'll be taking the prints down on Friday afternoon 8/29. If you haven't had a chance to stop by yet, please do. If you get a chance, please take a minute to thank the Bank for making space available.

2. Next weekend, Sat. and Sun. 8/30-31 from 10am to 6pm each day, is the Lummi Island Artists' Studio Tour. Please note I'll be at a different location this time--in the wooden shelter in the grassy area just north of the Islander Grocery. It's right near the ferry dock here on the Island. This is in the area where the Farmer's Market is held every Saturday, so you can see art and get your weekly veggies all in one stop on that day. Sunday will be a little quieter. Besides pastel and acrylic originals, I'll also  have framed prints of some of my work for sale. See details at my web site.

3. On Saturday Aug. 23 I spent the day in Bellingham participating in the 3rd Annual Plein Air Paint Out (PAPO) event. ("Plein Air" means painting from life outdoors.) The purpose of the event was to increase the visibility of artists in the area and draw attention to the fact that when older areas of downtown Bellingham are "gentrified" (old buildings torn down and replaced with upscale condos, etc.) affordable art studio spaces are lost, affecting the quality of life in the city. In Fairhaven, for example, only one building still has an art studio, and most of the galleries have become gift shops. About 75 artists from Bellingham, Seattle, Olympia, and other areas signed up to participate in the event this year and painted subjects on or near the Holly Street corridor. I personally headed for Maritime Heritage Park. The weather was perfect and it was an enjoyable day. The Blue Horse Gallery (301 W. Holly) will display the paintings we created at a show from Nov. 14-30. An artists' reception will be held on Nov. 14 from 7-10pm. I'll send out reminders before the event, and details are on my web site calendar.

4. Finally, the holiday Lummi Island Artists Studio Tour has been plagued with bad weather in recent years, so this year it will be held earlier, November 15-16 instead of early December. I'll send details closer to the event, and will post them on my web site as well.

Hope to see you this weekend!
