Dear Sacha and all women on the road to Rio+20.

The 2nd day, 20th of October of Asia-Pacific Regional
Meeting for Rio+20  was indeed a great day
for women groups in terms of space for statements.

There was adequate  space for the women major group
statement during the plenary which text was prepared
by all asia-pacific organizations in the women's major group
especially, Tess ( APWLD) , Marjo (PANAP), Anita ( DAWN),
and Yukiko ( Kitakyushu) and Meena ( WOCAN).
Meena  as woman major group  focal person  had the final say
in reading the entire text during the plenary.
I think Meena  is the best source on what was the final version of
the Women's Major Group statement to post/ distribute  around.

Another victory was the space given by UNESCAP and UNEP
for me to read the Asian Women's Declaration on Gender Justice
and the Green Economy as Outcome of the Asian Women's Forum
in Bangkok, Thailand  together with  Chee Yoke Ling of Third World
Network
who read the Major Group Statement, the   Scientists Group and the
Ibon Foundation. I am really so thankful to UNESCAP
and UNEP for the space given to me  to read the Declaration in the rostrum  and
on stage and elaborate more on the Asian women's concerns.

Will  give full report  next time because right now we , Meena, Anita, Marjo and
Tess  and others are about to have a korean soju drinking celebration and solidarity dinner.
Soju is on me ( Daphne)  Meena says.

Cheers!

Daphne Roxas, Executive Director,
Asian Women's Network on Gender and Development
and Co-convener, Helena Z. Benitez, Global Forum

Thanks Tess (APWLD) and Marjo ( PANAP),.

I am very happy that it includes most
of our discussions in the last two days
and also the consensus Bangkok
Declaration. Do you have already the
final version.

Did you email it also to Anita?

Hope this will go in to the
final document of the major group's meeting
and the main meeting on
today and on the 20th.

It was really a victory for women
during the workshops of the major
groups, 2nd day. After the initial invisibility of women
and gender issues  in most of the discussions
of the first day of the major stakeholders,
I think  most  got a shock from the
expression of dismay from myself and
Anita  Nayer  for the absence of gender in the
summary report presented by the
secretariat for the first day as input
for the workshops. I am happy that
most of the workshops included now
gender dimension and women's rights.

Thanks Tess and Marjo for the initiative.

More power!

Daphne
