Greetings All,

This subject of Afro Women within the UN CSD Women's Group is a very important topic as we now move towards outcomes post Rio + 20.

Unfortunately for Afro Women, we did not fair well during the CSD Rio + 20 Conference in Brazil June 20-22, 2012, due little transparency, controversial leadership, applicable initiative and inclusive avocation of all African Regions and the Afro Diaspora, but all is not lost.

The African Women organizing partner did not act on the best interest of the Afro women as an informed unit in balance with the needs and concerns of our jurisdiction, experience and expertise within all Major Group Areas.  Now, it is our responsibility to make sure that we receive proper representation and that our many proposed issues, interest and initiatives are fully implemented within an inclusive platform.

I, Sandra Nelson Zongo, have been faced with many difficult challenges and situations within the Women's Major Group.  Many complaints were made prior to Rio + 20 surrounding exclusion from the process, defamation of character, bad behavior, neglect, self interest and inadequate representation.

A few months prior to Rio + 20 the NGO, for which I represent, began writing a report that surrounded the organizational leadership of the Women's Major Group.  That report will be made available within the next few days.  We are hopeful that the report and supportive documentation will be the beginning of transformation and new direction for the Women's Major Group.

You comments, questions and concerns are welcomed and we look forward to  reaching sound outcomes for the sustainability of all women internationally.

Thank you,

Sandra Nelson Zongo

Dear Friends,

To me, too, there was a great change in the time I have been a part of the womens major group. A rapdily growing  number of women's NGOs complained about exclusion, lack of transparency and capacity to participate. I hung in there for a long time and watched one group after the other leave. All of you know my views. I have voiced them frequently. Now that Rio is behind us, perhaps we can move forward together again in a more participatory way. I certainly want to give it a try.
