SPEAKER SPOTLIGHT:
MAE JEMISON, BONNIE ST. JOHN, TORY JOHNSON
Mae Jemison, M.D.
Keynote Speaker
Mae C. Jemison, M.D., blasted into orbit aboard the space shuttle Endeavour in 1992 as the world's first woman of color to go into space. The founder and president of two technology companies, she also founded and chairs The Dorothy Jemison Foundation for Excellence, which hosts an annual international science camp. Prior to joining NASA in 1987, Jemison worked in the fields of engineering and medicine. She was a general practitioner in Los Angeles with the INA/Ross Loos Medical Group. She then spent two and a half years (1983-1985) as a Peace Corps medical officer for Sierra Leone and Liberia in West Africa. Jemison entered Stanford University at the age of sixteen on a scholarship, graduating with a B.S. in chemical engineering and fulfilled the requirements for an A.B. in African and Afro-American studies. She earned her doctorate in medicine at Cornell University Medical College.
Bonnie St. John
Workshop Leader, Enhancing Your Executive Presence
Bonnie St. John has circled the globe as a speaker, consultant, and leadership instructor. She combines the lessons she has learned as an amputee (she had her right leg amputated at age five), Olympic athlete (silver and two bronze medals in the 1984 Paralympics), Rhodes Scholar, best-selling author, White House official, and businesswoman into impactful presentations. “NBC Nightly News” called St. John “one of the five most inspiring women in America.”
Tory Johnson
Speaker and Co-host, ReWork Career Fair
Tory Johnson is all about spark and hustle at work, dating back to high school in Miami Beach where she joined her all-male debate team—and became the first girl (with her partner) to win a state championship. She dropped out of Emerson College to work at ABC News and then jumped to NBC News, only to be fired unexpectedly a couple years later. The permanent scar from that experience inspired her to shift from employee to entrepreneur, and in 1999 she founded Women For Hire. Now in its 11th year, the company hosts high caliber diversity career expos and conferences for entrepreneurs across the country. As workplace contributor on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” she is a favorite among viewers who appreciate her no-nonsense career advice. Her fifth book, “Fired To Hired,” follows the bestseller
“Will Work From Home: Earn Cash Without the Commute.”
