Hi Women of Faith and Friends,

So many amazing families who have been through so much and are digging in their heels and going to work!  We’ve now reached our 19th country.  It’s hard to believe that the ugliness in the world is so pervasive.  And it is!  And yet, the individuals who are affected are like your favorite next-door neighbor.  Just seeking peace and an opportunity to safely support their families.

We settled two families on Saturday in the same apartment complex. One from Russia and another from Ukraine. These families, with a total of seven daughters between them, had already met at their previous place of temporary housing (in very difficult circumstances, I’ll add).  Some of the girls were the same ages and had made fast friends.  It was beautiful when we pulled into the parking lot and began to unload for the Russian family, the Ukrainian family was immediately on scene to help.  The mom (alone without her husband who is home fighting in the war), interpreted for the Russian family who was just learning English.   From countries at war with each other, and Muslim and Christian. My heart melts at times like this❤.  Wish these families could host a meeting with the leaders of the world!

We have more and more families arriving every week and are in need of the following and would love it if you could consider what you might have or know about – or who you could share this need with:

·         Refrigerators, especially one that would fit in this available space: 37” wide & 68” tall.

·         Kitchen tables & chairs, especially medium and small sizes (to seat 4 to 6 or 8).

·         Sofa sleeper, not too old. This is for parents to sleep in the living room due to space constraints.

·         Like new queen and twin mattresses – very clean and absolutely no stains

·         Lamps – especially floor lamps

·         Microwave ovens – used are fine if clean and working, of course

That’s the big stuff.  Now for the smaller stuff:

·         Clothes hangers

·         Clothes irons

·         Kitchen garbage cans (13 gallon)

·         Diapers size 4 & 6

·         Dish drainers

·         Mops (not Dollar Tree variety, please 😉)

Also, for any who are in a position to understand grants and where to search for appropriate ones: Women of Faith Interfaith Service Community is a tax-exempt/non-profit organization and we’d love to look for an opportunity or two to apply for grants.  If that is up your alley and you have some spare time, we’d love to accept your assistance. WOFISC has no overhead.  No bills.  It’s 100% volunteers and you’re a part of that😇!  We’d like to keep it that way as long as possible.

Hugs!

Jean
