Dear Women of Faith,
I hope you are all managing the heat even as we are able to be out and engage with each other more 😊.
We have a couple of urgent needs and I’m hoping that some of you are able to help.
1) Due to covid, we haven’t had a sewing bee for Loma Linda Children’s Hospital’s Bereavement program in a long time. Fortunately, we had baby gowns in various stages of completion from the last time and with help from some of you working at home, we have been able to supply what was needed.
However, we’re down to zero is several sizes. And the hospital has only seven of the smallest size and expects to be out of them within a couple of weeks. Size A is the simplest pattern to cut and sew. Those of you who have sewn them know that they are the little flannel ones with the ribbon around the neck and at the wrist.
If you have sewn these gowns before, would you be willing to sew a few of them in the next week or two? And for many of you who are new to this email list since you helped with the sewing of 8000+ face coverings last year – you’re invited to help too! We can easily show you what is needed. (This project is not for beginners, however.)
If you’d like to help, please reply or text/call me 909.648.3436 and we’ll get you set up.
Meanwhile, with things opening up, we’ll be scheduling a sewing bee soon and will let you know when. It just won’t be soon enough to meet this need. Thanks!
2) We have run completely out of three items we need for new refugee families and could use an immediate restocking of:
a. laundry baskets (good quality ones - i.e. Walmart okay; Dollar Tree not okay 😊)
b. shaving cream
c. toilet bowl brushes
There are several church and other groups having donation drives to collect a variety of items in preparation for the expected ten-fold increase in refugee families arriving by late fall. If you are part of a group that might be interested in conducting a drive, let me know. I can provide a list of what we are most in need of and you can choose according to your participants' interests. We also appreciate donations from individuals; just check first to see what we’re in need of.
Love you all!
