RE: *Status Check - due this Sunday, 11/6*
- Please share where you are in the lectures / assignments and
anything
else you want to share - if you haven't started, tell us
when you plan to
get started, and if you're behind, tell us where you are and
what you plan
to do next. What do you think of the course so far? Do you
have any tips to
share? Any questions?

Hi, everybody! Just sending in my first Sunday status update. This
week I watched the first three lectures and worked through problems 1,
2 & 3 in Assignment 1. Problem 1 (Karel fetches the paper) was
straightforward and fun. Problem 2 (Karel repairs the Quad) was a
little more challenging: There was one case, the case where a column
had only one stone, which took me a few tries to figure out. Problem 3
(Karel creates a checkerboard) was extremely challenging for me. I
could either get the 8x8 world to work or the 5x3 world to work, but
not both. It took me several days, but I finally got it to work this
morning. Sometime yesterday I got Karel to create the checkerboard in
both worlds successfully, but I could never get it to face the correct
direction at the very end. Finally, finally this morning it turned out
that I had added a WHILE loop around my methods to turn and move up
rows that should not be there and was preventing me from getting Karel
to face the correct way at the end. I was really happy when it finally
worked! Natasha's suggestion to watch the third lecture for assistance
figuring out problem 3 was a great help. I haven't started problem 4
yet. I plan to do that tomorrow.

Take care, everyone!

Good for you! :) I unfortunately haven't started the lectures. I was
just swamped with school work :(

I've watched the lectures and they've been great - haven't had time (or functioning software) to do the assignments. We're launching a campaign at work and I'm two people for two months - me and my boss!

Looking forward to getting assignments finished this weekend and being all caught up!

Hi everyone,

I apologize for the late reply!
Status: I've enjoyed the first two lectures and successfully accomplished Problems 1 & 2.

The only stumbles I've had are with navigating the programming environment of Eclipse (I suppose it just takes time) and a silly mistake with Problem 2. I spent a while wondering why I couldn't get my program to run. I had renamed the public method header... turns out you must use "run()"! (I initially skimmed the reading, but later located this crucial fact on page 7 of the book).

Are we uploading our code anywhere?

Have a great night,
Cristiana

Oops I've just noticed the notes about github! Ignore my question!
Good night :)

Hi, everyone. I hope everybody is having a good week! I put my
solutions for Assignment 1 (1-4) up on github. They can be found here:
https://github.com/epickard/Stanford-CS-106A

Thanks to Natasha for suggesting we do this!
