Hi, everybody!

Problem 3 is definitely making me work for it! So far I can only get
it to work for the 8x8. I haven't looked at solutions yet, but I'm
getting close to doing so. :)

How did it go for everyone else?

Hey Emily,

Make sure to watch Lecture 3 first, since he gives you a few hints on this. This one took me forever to figure out (probably a few days) - this is where I created this support group and blog, because I wanted to quit. When you're working on it, make sure to test everything you're doing in 8x8 AND 7x7! I also found it useful to do #4 first, and then go back to #3. #4 is pretty hard as well, though.

Hey Lisa,

Have you tried downloading it from the official course page: http://www.stanford.edu/class/cs106a/cgi-bin/software/?

Let me know if you still have issues, and I can reach out to some of my coder friends.

I can't open it either. It's giving me a message that says "Java Runtime Environment Needed."

Ideas?

Yeah, you need to install the JRE in addition to Eclipse, which is included in this link: http://www.stanford.edu/class/cs106a/cgi-bin/software/

I did that, now I'm getting another error message.

Maybe post on the Eclipse forum and see if anyone will answer? http://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/f/89/

Problem #3 took me longer than I expected, but now that it's done, I'm
super pumped.

Are we going to be discussing code during out next meeting? I'd love
to see if there was a more elegant solution than the one I came up
with, because I'm pretty sure there is, lol.

Hi folks,

I was able to get through the first two problems and the first two lectures do far. Hoping to get to lecture/problem 3 in the next few days and bracing myself given the notes from others!

Haven't looked at github yet; is anyone uploading there yet?

Best, T.

Hey Lisa,

Not sure if you were able to figure out how to install Eclipse on your PC, but I found this video, and thought it might help: http://www.youtube.com/user/CS106AVideos#p/a/u/2/eDQe0TnKzX8

Hi Ladies,

I wanted to introduce myself and check in on my progress.

My name is Adriani Leon, I live in San Francisco and have for the last three years, I grew up in NYC (Washington Heights) and am originally from the Dominican Republic. I became interested in coding as a way to beef up my resume but I now strongly feel that I should learn to code because I have access to do so and because I hope to learn how to merge business, technology and philanthropy.

I've finished parts one and two of the first assignment and my mind has refused to concentrate on Karel again for over a week.
Some useful tips for those just getting started:
-Lecture one: spends a lot of time talking about class logistics, it is not necessary to watch it.
-Lecture two: take notes! I trusted that the information was in the reader and that i could look to it later but i ended up watching the lecture twice because i found that listening to the professor was easier to understand than the reader.

If you live in SF, id love to get together to work on the assignments (unfortunately i can't attend Natasha's saturday group).
My email is adria...@gmail.com, or you can find me on linkedin.

Good luck coding!
Adriani
