Hi Lisa,

In its most alarming move yet, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced a proposal that could end most of its climate-related regulations. Known as the “Endangerment Finding,” officials are reconsidering this finding that says greenhouse gases (GHG) threaten public health. By seeking to revoke the only rule that allows them to limit planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles, power plants, and oil and gas wells under the Clean Air Act, it would eliminate EPA’s ability to mitigate climate change.

As a first step in responding to this latest move, we urge you to call on your company to sign onto this business letter urging EPA to preserve the Endangerment Finding organized by our colleagues at Ceres and the We Mean Business Coalition. Public comments are now being accepted through Monday, September 15. Having the business voice included on the administrative record now is valuable in laying the groundwork for future steps in this process, such as likely litigation.

Secondly, it’s not too late to urge your company’s leaders to weigh in with support for maintaining GHG emissions standards for fossil-fueled power plants. It’s important for companies to engage in the proposed rule’s open comment period as they remain a powerful and credible voice to this administration. The public comment period closes this Thursday, August 7, 2025 @ 11:59 pm ET.

And remember, an effective public comment follows these best practices:
  1. Start off with your main point so it is the clear priority.
  2. As much as you are comfortable, state who you are and how this impacts you, your workplace, and your community.
  3. Succinctly state what you want to see happen and how you are proposing it be done.
  4. Add reputable supporting facts, research, figures, etc.
  5. Team up! Comments can be submitted formally or informally from a group of people like a club, chapter, association, etc. Even better, urge your company leaders to weigh in formally.
These are difficult times, but together we will prevail. With gratitude for your continued advocacy,

Bill Weihl
