The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science invites applications for the following position of Salary Scale W3 NBesO, starting as soon as possible: University Professorship in Intelligent Systems

The Position

Leibniz University Hannover invites outstanding researchers in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to apply for the following professorship. We are seeking a distinguished individual with a scientific background representing Leibniz University and the L3S AI Research Center in at least one of the following key areas of AI: Embodied AI, Neurosymbolic AI, Agentic AI, Trustworthy AI, or Generative AI, thereby further strengthening Hannover as an AI hub.

Central to this is the research and development of intelligent systems capable of learning from their environment, interacting, and solving complex problems independently. Close cooperation with the institutes of the faculty as well as an active participation in the further development of the L3S AI Research Center are expected. Furthermore, collaboration within the faculty and across faculty boundaries on the interdisciplinary topic of AI, as well as its ethical and social implications, is important. Active participation in the Lower Saxony Centre for AI and Causal Methods in Medicine (CAIMed) and the initiation of collaborative projects would be desirable.

Furthermore, the future holder of the position is expected to offer excellent teaching in the form of fundamental courses on AI in the faculty's Bachelor's and Master's degree programs, as well as advanced courses in the aforementioned key areas.

Your Profile

The following profile is expected:

  • Internationally recognized expertise in at least one of the above-mentioned areas, demonstrated, among other things, by relevant publications in leading AI conferences (A* according to CORE) and journals (Q1 according to scimago)
  • Experience in successfully acquiring third-party funding (e.g., DFG, EU, national ministries)
  • Experience in independently conducting courses
  • International visibility in renowned networks (e.g., ELLIS) or other committees
  • Development and delivery of appealing and innovative courses in English

Furthermore, the following points are desirable:

  • Experience in leading and conducting cooperative research projects
  • Successful teaching proven by positive teaching evaluations
  • Proven experience in supervising junior researchers
  • Connections to CAIMed and/or one or more of the three excellence clusters at Leibniz University Hannover: Hearing4All, PhoenixD, QuantumFrontiers
  • Willingness to proactively help shape ongoing and future research projects at L3S
  • If corresponding knowledge is not present, the learning of the German language to B1 level within the first three years
