The Center for Advancing Safety of Machine Intelligence (CASMI) at Northwestern University is seeking to fund research projects aligned with CASMI’s mission to operationalize human safety in the design, development, deployment, and evaluation of intelligent systems. CASMI is a collaborative research hub operated jointly by Northwestern and UL Research Institutes and has already funded ongoing projects at NYU, MIT, UC- Santa Cruz, University of Wisconsin, and Cal Poly. As many vital research gaps and opportunities remain, the center is issuing this call for proposals to identify additional research partners to fund for critical work over the next two years. CASMI will be hosting three live, virtual information sessions on August 30 and 31 to discuss its research mission and proposal process.
