Hi WiML community,

I'm Kadidia Konaté, a Data Scientist and AI for Operations Lead at NERSC (National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. I wanted to share an exciting paid summer internship opportunity that I think would be a great fit for members of this community.

I'm co-mentoring a project focused on Agentic AI for HPC Operations and Scientific AI Infrastructure — designing and prototyping AI agents that improve operational efficiency at one of the world's leading supercomputing centers. The work involves natural-language interfaces for operational data, intelligent troubleshooting assistance, and automated system-health insights. It's a rare opportunity to do applied agentic AI work on real infrastructure supporting DOE's AI-for-Science mission.

If your background is more in quantum computing, application performance, data science, or HPC systems, NERSC has a range of other 2026 summer projects as well:

The program is open to graduate students and undergraduate juniors/seniors. Applicants apply directly to project mentors — so if you're interested in the agentic AI project, feel free to reach out or apply through the link above.

I'd love to see more women and underrepresented voices in HPC and scientific computing. Please share widely!

Warm regards,
Kadidia Konaté
