The European Summer School on Artificial Intelligence (ESSAI 2026), organized under the auspices of EurAI, invites applications for travel grants to support participation in the summer school.

ESSAI is one of the leading AI summer schools in Europe, bringing together PhD students, early-career researchers, and leading experts from academia and industry. The program covers a broad range of topics in Artificial Intelligence, offering both introductory and advanced courses. The 2026 edition will also encompass the 2nd International Summer School on Bilateral AI and will be co-located with the ACM Europe Digital Humanism Summer School.

The summer school will provide an opportunity to:

  • Attend comprehensive courses covering all areas of AI
  • Engage with internationally renowned speakers
  • Participate in specialized tutorials on current research topics
  • Network with peers and experts from around the world
  • Take part in a rich social program, including events in Vienna

Travel Grants

A limited number of travel grants are available to support participants with limited access to other funding. Each grant amounts to 525€ (covering the early student registration fee).

Applicants should:
  • Be students or early-career researchers in Artificial Intelligence
  • Demonstrate the need for financial support
  • Please note that part of the available funding is reserved for members of EurAI member societies; however, applications from non-members are also welcome.

Application Procedure:

  • Applications should be submitted as a single zip file containing:
  • A brief motivation statement (up to 500 words)
  • A detailed CV
  • A supporting letter (e.g., from supervisor, if applicable)
  • Further details on eligibility and required documents are available online.
