Dear WiML community,

Excited to introduce the "Responsible Communication of Machine Learning Research in Biomedicine" workshop — taking place at NeurIPS 2026 in Sydney this December!

A persistent gap has emerged between what machine learning systems can deliver in biomedical contexts and how their capabilities are communicated to those who use or regulate them. This risks hype, misuse and poorly informed governance, with real consequences for trust, funding and adoption. The workshop brings machine learning researchers into direct dialogue with domain scientists, clinicians, policymakers and science communicators to address this gap.

Our Call for Papers is now open with a submission deadline of 29 August 2026 (AOE). We welcome submissions on biomedical and clinical ML topics such as:

  •  Empirical studies relating to ML capability claims
  •  Frameworks for communicating ML findings, capabilities and limitations
  •  Challenges in real-world ML deployment
  •  Governance and reporting standards for ML
  •  Case studies of ML communication successes and failures
We're also seeking Program Committee members – please reach out if you'd be interested in reviewing.
