Dear colleagues,

We would like to invite you to submit your work to the Special Session on Multimodal AI in Archaeology at ANNPR 2026 – Workshop on Artificial Neural Networks in Pattern Recognition, which will take place on 7–9 October 2026 at the University of Milan, Italy.

The special session aims to bring together researchers working at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition, and Archaeology/Cultural Heritage, with a particular focus on multimodal approaches integrating heterogeneous data sources such as imagery, spatial data, 3D models, and textual records.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • computer vision for archaeological analysis and heritage monitoring

  • remote sensing and satellite imagery analysis

  • multimodal learning and data fusion in archaeology

  • 3D reconstruction and analysis of artifacts and sites

  • AI-based artifact classification, dating, and provenance analysis

  • NLP for historical and archaeological documents

  • cross-modal retrieval between images, 3D data, and text

  • predictive modeling for archaeological discovery

  • explainability and trustworthy AI for cultural heritage

Submission deadline: 4 June 2026

Submission website: https://annpr2026.unimi.it/program/specialsessions/

We look forward to receiving your contributions. We would also greatly appreciate it if you could share this call with colleagues, research groups, or students who may be interested.

Special Session Organizers:
