Dear all,

We are pleased to invite you to the first edition of the workshop on Community building for researchers on generative AI-facilitiated image-based abuse (CARA ‘26). This half-day workshop will be co-hosted with the SOUPS 2026 conference and will take place on August 24, 2026 in Hannover, Germany.

Website: https://ag2425.github.io/AIG-CSAM-NCII-Workshop/.

Recent advances in generative AI have enabled bad actors to generate non-consensual intimate imagery of adults (AIG-NCII) and child sexual abuse material (AIG-CSAM) on an unprecedented scale. Researchers are tackling these problems with a variety of approaches and backgrounds including AI, usable security, HCI, trust and safety, tech policy, and law.

The goal of this workshop is to build and foster a community of early-career researchers working on tackling the urgent challenges of AIG-NCII and AIG-CSAM, by bringing together researchers from different backgrounds to exchange ideas, build new collaborations in and across disciplines, as well as incubate new ideas and help refine existing projects.

CALL FOR IDEAS

We welcome 3-6-page submissions from researchers at all stages, from those with ongoing or published work and practical experience to those entering from adjacent fields. We welcome a variety of submissions such as empirical studies, position papers, literature reviews, and works in progress, including from early researchers who are developing new directions in this space. Submissions should relate to one of the following topics:

  • Platform governance and content moderation, and their usability implications for victims/survivors

  • Legal and policy frameworks

  • Technical methods for detection, removal, and prevention

  • Survivor-centered and trauma-informed research methods

  • Psychosocial impacts on victims/survivors

  • Usability of reporting, takedown, and protection tools

  • Ethical and legal barriers to research

  • User perceptions and awareness of AIG-NCII and AIG-CSAM risks

  • Privacy and consent in the design of generative AI systems

Accepted submissions will be presented at the workshop as either a lightning talk or a poster. If your submission is accepted, at least one author should attend in person to present it. See our website for more information: https://ag2425.github.io/AIG-CSAM-NCII-Workshop/
